Guangdong Mechanical and Electrical Polytechnic (GDMEP) is located in Baiyun District of Guangzhou, which is a full-time public higher vocational college under the direct guidance of Department of Education of Guangdong Province. It is granted with the title of the Demonstrative School of Guangdong Province, and is one (listed 10) of 18 the First-Class Higher Vocational School Project of Guangdong Province. The College has two campuses with a total area of nearly 800 acres: the South Campus is alongside the Baiyun Mountain with very convenient transportation and the North Campus is located in Guangzhou Zhongluotan Higher Vocational Education Zone. GDMEP boasts with a long history. It was established in 1963.

GDMEP currently has over 1000 teaching staff, 22,000 full-time students. GDMEP boasts an excellent teaching team, including one teacher with the title of National Excellent Staff, one with the title of National Excellent teacher, 6 with the titles of South China(Guangdong) Excellent teachers, 2 with the titles of South China(Guangdong) Excellent staff, one specially-supported Provincial Outstanding Teacher, one with the title of Provincial Leading Personnel in High Vocational Education, 4 with the titles of Provincial Young Excellent Teachers, 2 with the titles of Provincial Technical Expert, etc. Among the teachers, over 28% have the high professional titles, and over 70% boast the master degree or doctor degree.

GDMEP has 10 schools, namely, Schools of Automobile, Schools of Advanced Manufacturing Technology, Schools of Electrical Engineering, School of Electronics and Communication, School of Computer and Design, School of Economics and Trade, School of Logistics, School of Foreign Language and International Business, School of Marxism, School of Further Education. Among the majors, there are 2 supported by the central finance, 3 provincial demonstrative majors, 8 key majors, 1 provincial 1st-rating renowned major and 9 provincial 2nd-rating renowned programs. GDMEP has 2 nationally distinguished course and 21 provincially distinguished courses. In recent years, our students have been rewarded 404 prizes, among which there are 67 national prizes and the others are provincial prizes. GDMEP is also known for its teaching excellence. The College has won 2 national teaching achievement awards (second prize), 2 provincial teaching achievement awards (first prize) and 1 provincial teaching achievement award (second prize).

GDMEP persists in service-aiming. There are two national badly-needed professionals cultivation demonstrative bases, namely CNC Technology Application and Auto Application and Maintenance. There are core teachers training bases respectively for secondary and higher vocational schools. Furthe rmore, 81 different occupational skill testing service are offered people who intend to apply for the testing, and GDMEP is authorized to have the senior technicians training and testing covering CNC control millers, maintenance electrician auto mechanic.

Under development strategy of Open Education and Collaborative Innovation, the school promotes domestic and international communication and cooperation. The school is listed as one of the 100 national Modern Apprenticeship pilot projects of the 1st batch. There is one provincial Collaborative Innovation Center and one provincial Collaborative Education Platform. The school led the establishment of Guangdong Mechanical and Electrical Vocational Education Group with over 117 enterprises in 2011. Over 358 off-campus training bases are set up with different enterprises. The school offers Chinese training programe and some diploma programs for international students.

The graduates as a whole are highly valued in the professional market for their outstanding practical ability, excellent professional quality and prompt job adaptability. They are mostly employed by domestic well-known companies or businesses in the Pearl River Delta region. The average employment rate of our graduates has reached above 98% over the past three years. The employment quality of GDMEP has been ranking one of the highest among all higher vocational colleges in Guangdong Province.
