About Guangzhou International Economics College

Guangzhou International Economics College (referred as “GIEC” hereafter) is located in the Baiyun District of Guangzhou, adjacent to Guangzhou Nanhu Tourism Park. At the foot of the scenic Baiyun Mountain, GIEC has superior geographical location, and the transportation is extremely convenient. It is an ideal place to cultivate one’s sentiment and pursue studies. In March 2004, approved by the Guangdong Provincial Government and filed by the Ministry of Education, it was officially named Guangzhou International Economics College and became a provincial full-time general higher vocational college. In March 2009, the Education Working Committee of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China approved the establishment of the Guangzhou International Economics College and Technical College Committee of the Communist Party of China.

The college covers an area of 1,096.82 acres, with a total construction area of nearly 300,000 square meters. The library has over 950,000 books, teaching and scientific research instruments and equipment worth more than 55.87 million yuan. There are 95 training rooms, 211 multimedia classrooms and 8 language studios. It has an advanced network center suitable for the network information age and is equipped with an independent high-speed Internet across all student dormitory.

The college is well known with its financial characteristics, that is, to train high-quality and high-skilled talents with specialized knowledge in foreign languages, international economics and global trade. The school has 10 faculties and a secondary vocational departments, including the Faculty of Foreign Languages, Faculty of Finance and Economics, Faculty of Business, Faculty of Information Engineering, Faculty of Design, Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine, Faculty of Chinese and International Education, Faculty of Education, Faculty of Marxism, and Faculty of Music and Dance. This year, 44 courses have been opened. The college pays close attention to the cultivation of students’ foreign language ability. In order to highlight the characteristics of “globalisation”, bilingual teaching is carried out in many majors, and more bilingual courses will be carried out, with plans for over half of the majors in the next five years. The school has opened up many avenues for students and to travel around the world, with programs such as “international short-term study”, “student exchange programs”, “overseas vacation courses” and “long term studying abroad”. The college has successively established cooperative relations with overly 20 universities including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom and other regions, and has successfully carried out multi-level international study programs.
