Wang Yisun –

Fragrance of Silk Brocade
· Red Leaves

Wang Yisun
In remnants of elixir red
And colored silken thread,
The riverside lonely tree’s dyed.
A few rouged drops appear
Like late autumn’s bloody tear.
Awake from dreams of old again,
Your green color fades and drips.
Of new grief you complain,
Biting your rouged lips.
We deplore all the more,
Though you are lost in frost,
The lotus looking down
On water envy your evening gown.
Shed down from wood to wood, fewer you grow.
Why should you vie in the west wind with evening glow?
Redder than spring flowers new,
More cabs would come along the path for you.
See close again
If on the water of the dike
There is a leaf looking alike
With love hidden in vain.
How sad and drear to see
In autumn garden you have left no trace.
The slanting sun shines only on cold dancing tree
With drunken face!

注释:
The poet sings his love of beauty in red leaves and regrets they should fall in the dike, though one red leaf with a verse on it helped a poet fall in love with a palace maid.

“Fragrance of Silk Brocade · Red Leaves” is a work by Wang Yisun, a lyricist of the late Song and early Yuan dynasties. In this poem, the lyricist expresses his feelings about the maple leaves in autumn. The lyrics are written for the purpose of enjoying the red leaves. The words are written for the appreciation of red leaves, so the intention is to convey the spirit of the red leaves, which are endowed with the author’s own emotional colors of beauty and loneliness and desolation. The author reflected his own state of mind because of the trust he sent.
