He Zhu –

He Zhu –

Invitation to Wine
He Zhu
The wind and dew so drear
Bring the buried no cheer.
We till the ground where were the graves of olden days.
Reed and rush grow
By rivershore,
Houses are built where flowed rivers of yore.
Yellow dust is raised under the sun on the way
To the capital town.
Tired wayfarers have no drink and horses no hay.
The passage closed down
Opens again;
As of old we see but passengers come and go.
Six States no more. began Qin’s reign.
Where are the loyal hermits then?
Driving cabs on the way
And sending letters away,
They burned old things and put on robes in display.
Wise men enjoy delight in wine;
Drunk, they will find the country fine.
Neglecting health
And fame and wealth,
Why should I care for what the lords and hermits say?

注释:
The poet voices his discontent of the times.

He Zhu –

The lyric “Invitation to Wine” is a lyric composed by He Chuan, a lyricist of the Northern Song Dynasty. The first piece uses the previous poem with slight variations, showing the author’s observations and reflections on nature, life and historical phenomena. The second piece contrasts the fake hermits who are keen on fame and fortune with the “high streams” who forget their forms and fame. It expresses his own transcendence and indifference to fame and fortune. The whole lyric is humorous, with a high rhythm, a bold and spacious style, mocking humor and rich in philosophy.
