Pure Serene Music

Xin Qiji

Bamboos and pines extend to the clouds far and wide:
From now on, with all I am satisfied
Cane in hand, I go east to take my share of meat:
At the head of my bed the first brew of wine sweet.

The west wind ripens pears and dates in hillside land:
Children come stealthily, long pole in hand.
Do not scare them out of their pleasure!
I will sit quietly at leisure.

注释:
The poet describes his leisurely life, letting children steal his pears and dates with poles.

“Pure Serene Music · Hillside Garden” is the work of Xin Qiji, a patriotic lyricist of the Southern Song Dynasty. The upper part of the poem depicts a peaceful and happy rural life scene, setting up a quiet and harmonious atmosphere. The next piece takes an interesting life scene directly into the lyric, which makes the lyric have a rich life atmosphere. The whole piece has no strange words, no beautiful lines, no allusions, no embellishments, just like a homely language, which brings the main character’s feelings to life in a vivid and intriguing way.
