Brief Introduction
Suqian 宿迁 is a prefecture-level city under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province, an important gateway city radiating from the coastal areas of Jiangsu province to the central and western regions, a core city of Xuzhou metropolitan circle, Jianghuai Ecological economic zone, and a node city of the Belt and Road.
Suqian, located in the center of Xuzhou 徐州, Lianyungang 连云港, and Huai ‘an 淮安, is located in the north wing of the Yangtze River Delta, the north of Jiangsu Province, is the regional comprehensive transportation hub of the north wing of the Yangtze River Delta; Suqian is one of the first batch of 12 demonstration cities for the construction of social credit system, as well as China’s excellent tourism city, National Garden City, National health City and National Civilized City.
Suqian is the hometown of Xiang Yu 项羽, the overlord of the Western Chu Dynasty西楚霸王. With a civilization history of more than 5,000 years and a history of building the city for more than 2700 years, Suqian has a long history and is known as “the vein of Chinese civilization, the root of Jiangsu civilization, the source of Huaihe Civilization, and the soul of the Chu and Han culture”华夏文明之脉、江苏文明之根、淮河文明之源、楚汉文化之魂. Suqian is one of the birthplaces of liquor culture and has the title of Chinese liquor capital, Yanghe, and Shuanggou two famous wines produced here.
As of October 2021, Suqian has jurisdiction over 2 municipal districts and 3 counties, covering an area of 8,555 square kilometers. According to the seventh census data, as of midnight on November 1, 2020, the permanent population of Suqian is 4.999 million. In 2021, Suqian achieved a GDP of 371.901 billion yuan.
