洞庭青草[1]，
近中秋、
更无一点风色。
玉鉴琼田[2]三万顷，
着我扁舟一叶。
素月分辉，
明河共影，
表里俱澄澈。
悠然心会，
妙处难与君说。
应念岭表经年[3]，
孤光自照，
肝胆皆冰雪。
短发萧骚襟袖冷，
稳泛沧溟空阔。
尽挹[4]西江，
细斟北斗，
万象[5]为宾客。
扣舷独啸，
不知今夕何夕。

[1]青草：湖名，在湖南岳阳西南，因湖中多生青草，故名青草湖。
[2]玉鉴琼田：形容月光皎洁下的湖水。
[3]岭表经年：张孝祥曾任知静江府，兼广南西路经略安抚使，罢官后又复官，知潭州，权荆湖南路提点刑狱公事。
[4]挹（yì）：把液体盛出来。
[5]万象：外界一切自然现象。
The Charm of a Maiden Singer
· Pass the Lake Donging
Zhang Xiaoxiang
Lake Dongting, Lake Green Grass,
Near the Mid-autumn night,
Unruffled for no winds pass,
Like thirty thousand acres of jade bright
Dotted with the leaflike boat of mine.
The skies with pure moonbeams o’erflow;
The water surface paved with moonshine:
Brightness above, brightness below.
My heart with the moon becomes one,
Felicity to share with none.
Thinking of the southwest, where I passed a year,
To lonely pure moonlight skin,
I feel my heart and soul snow-and-ice-clear.
Although my hair is short and sparse, my gown too thin,
In the immense expanse I keep floating up.
Drinking wine from the River West
And using Dipper as wine cup,
I invite Nature to be my guest.
Beating time aboard and crooning alone.
I sink deep into time and place unknown.

The poet thinks his heart becomes one with the moon on the lake, bright within and without.
《念奴娇·过洞庭》是南宋文学家张孝祥泛舟洞庭湖时即景抒怀之作，词人借洞庭夜月之景，抒发了自己的高洁忠贞和豪迈气概，同时隐隐透露出作者被贬谪的悲凉。
“The Charm of a Maiden Singer · Pass the Lake Donging” is a poetic composition written by Zhang Xiaoxiang, a literary scholar of the Southern Song Dynasty, who expresses his loyalty and courageous spirit through the scene of the Dongting moon at night, and at the same time reveals the author’s sadness of being relegated.
