Creation background
This poem was written in Wang Wei’s late years when he lived in seclusion in Wangchuan, Lantian. In his early years, Wang Wei believed in Buddhism, was detached in thought, and had a bumpy career. After he was 40 years old, he lived a semi official and semi reclusive life. The poet met leisurely with the bamboo grove and the bright moon in a state of tranquility and peace of mind, and his life was written in pieces.
