Wuzhen Ancient Town 乌镇古镇 has an ancient town built more than 1300 years ago. The inland water system town divides the town into four areas: the east, the south, the northwest, and the local people, respectively, “East Gate 东栅, South Gate 南栅, West Gate 西栅 and North Gate 北栅 ” in Shixi Town.
Wuzhen is a typical ancient water town in the south of the Yangtze River. Wuzhen was originally bounded by the Shihe River (Chexi) and divided into two towns of Wuqing. Wuzhen in Hexi belongs to Wucheng County in the Huzhou region; Qingzhen in Hedong belongs to Tongxiang County in Jiaxing region. During the period of the People’s Republic of China, Wuzhen, west of Shihe River, was placed under Tongxiang County, collectively referred to as Wuzhen.
