About Beijing Polytechnic
Beijing Polytechnic (BP) is a Beijing affiliated higher vocational college and one of the first batch of vocational colleges set up independently in China. The history of Beijing Polytechnic dates back to 1958 and it was formerly known as Beijing Light Industry School. In 2004, Beijing Light Industry School merged with Beijing Post and Telecommunications School under the name “Beijing Polytechnic”. In 2007, Beijing Instrumentation School, Beijing Second Light Industry School and Beijing Mechanical School merged into Beijing Polytechnic.
Beijing Polytechnic is considered to be one of the most influential vocational colleges in China. To mention but a few, in 2007 BP was designated as member of the first group of National Model Higher Vocational College. In 2010, it contributed to the construction of National Comprehensive Reforming and Experimenting District of Higher Vocational Education. In 2014, BP was awarded the Second Prize in the National Education and Teaching Achievement. In 2019, it was included in the Construction Plan of High-Level Higher Vocational Colleges and Specialties with Chinese Characteristics. In 2018 and 2019, it was successively rated as one of the top 50 Vocational Colleges excelling at internship management, teaching management and student management by the Ministry of Education of China. Beijing Polytechnic has repeatedly been awarded the Advanced Unit in Beijing Vocational Education.
Located in Beijing Economic-technological Development Area, Beijing Polytechnic is the only Institution of Higher Learning in the area. The campus covers an area of 53,8 hectares and the building area is 337,000 square meters. BP is equipped with good infrastructure. The fixed assets of BP values 2.45 billion yuan, and the total value of teaching equipment amounts 820 million yuan. There are 6 training bases at national level, 18 training bases for production, and 260 off-campus practice bases which are jointly built with enterprises. BP has 2 Beijing Institutes of Engineers, 4 Master Studios, and 3 Pilot Test Bases of Beijing Economic-technological Development Area. Professional-standard gymnasiums, swimming pools and stadiums are to seen in the beautiful campus. BP also successfully held the 54th Beijing University Games. The library covers 27,000 square meters, with a collection of nearly 1.2 million books and 1.7 million e-books. It provides great support to the teaching and research and is also open to the public.
Currently, Beijing Polytechnic has seven teaching divisions, including the School of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, School of Aeronautical Engineering, School of Automotive Engineering, School of Telecommunications Engineering, School of Bio-engineering, School of Art & Design, School of Economics and Management, covering 7 professional groups and 32 majors. In addition, BP has launched the“2+3+2 Program”, which is aimed at producing high-quality technical skills from secondary education; various training programs are supplied to the public by BP, such as the vocational training and adult education; BP has also trained students for Non-commissioned Officer (NCO). Up to now, BP has carried out a variety of training programs targeting different groups and delivered more than 10,0000 high-quality technical skills for the society, contributing to the country’s efforts to develop a diversified pool of talents. Due to the good reputation in vocational education field, Beijing Polytechnic keeps high employment rate of students.
At present, there are 6,639 full-time students and 862 staff members including 529 professional teachers. 371 of the professional teachers have master degrees and 88 doctoral degrees. Teachers with both theoretical and practical skills account for 92,1% of the total number of professional teachers. BP has five National Excellent Teachers, 21 Beijing Excellent Teachers, 4 Beijing Outstanding Young Scholars, 16 Beijing Famous Teachers. With the best teaching brains brought together, Beijing Polytechnic has Teaching Team of national level, Beijing Professional Innovation Team and Beijing Academic Innovation Team. Successful teaching results were achieved. Over the past five years, BP has won one Teaching Achievement Award of Vocational Education at national level and 22 Teaching Achievement Awards at municipal level, the number ranking first among the vocational colleges.
Seizing the opportunity of the China’s 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) , Beijing Polytechnic initiates the future development direction, major tasks and the related strategic measures. Looking to the future, BP has formulated the “three-step development strategy”: The first step is to accomplish the tasks of “High-level Vocational Colleges and Disciplines with Chinese Characteristics Construction Plan” by 2025, taking the leading position among all national vocational colleges; the second step is to build Beijing Polytechnic into a world famous, national first-class and leading demonstration vocational college in Beijing by 2035; the third step is to develop BP into a world-leading higher vocational college with great international influence by 2050.
Advantages
In 2007, the college was listed as one of the “National Demonstration Higher Vocational Colleges”. In 2010, it became one of the 20 “National Vocational Comprehensive Reform Pilot Zones” construction units of the Ministry of Education. In 2015,
Beijing took the lead in launching the reform experiment of cultivating high-end technical and skilled talents, and became one of the first pilot colleges of modern apprenticeship in China. In 2017, according to the rankings of
Wuhan college,
Guangzhou Daily and other national higher vocational colleges, our college ranked second or third in China. In 2018, it was selected into Beijing Characteristic High-level Vocational College Construction Plan; In 2019, it was selected as the national “Double High college Plan” High-level college construction unit (one of the ten a-level universities); In 2018 and 2019, it was rated by the Ministry of Education as one of the Top 50 Vocational Colleges in Practice Management, Top 50 Vocational Colleges in Teaching Management and Top 50 Vocational Colleges in Student Management. In 2019, it was selected as one of the top 30 National Defense Education Typical Cases (the only vocational college in China).
The college covers an area of 807 mu, with a building area of 336,000 square meters and a total fixed assets of 2.3 billion yuan. Instruments and equipment cost 159,000 yuan per student. The total value of the training equipment is 461 million yuan. The college has 6 state-level training bases, 18 productive training bases and 260 off-campus training bases jointly built with enterprises. The college has a professional-standard gymnasium, natatorium and stadium, and successfully hosted the 54th Universiade in 2016. The college library covers an area of 27,000 square meters and has a collection of nearly 1.2 million books, including 1.7 million e-books. It is open to the whole society while supporting the college’s teaching and research.
The college has mechanical and electrical, aviation, automobile, telecommunication, biology, concession, art seven on a total of more than 30 professional group of professionals, equipped with mechanical and electrical engineering, automotive engineering, telecommunications engineering, biological engineering, economic management, art design institute of six secondary colleges and noncommissioned officers, basic actuarial-oriented institute, college of continuing education, the ideological and political theory teaching units. It has implemented full-time higher vocational education, carried out “2+3+2” high-level technical and technical personnel training education, directed non-commissioned officer training education, vocational skills training, adult education and other multi-collegeing education, which has cultivated more than 100,000 high-quality skilled personnel for the society.
At present, the college has 6821 full-time students, including 5446 vocational students, accounting for 80%, and 1375 students, accounting for 20%.
The college has 854 staff members, including 529 full-time teachers. There are 36 senior professional and technical staff and 214 deputy senior professional and technical staff. There are 488 people with master’s degree and 90 people with doctor’s degree. There are 5 outstanding teachers in China, 21 outstanding Teachers in Beijing, 4 Academic Innovation talents and Youth Top-notch Talents in Beijing universities, 16 Outstanding Teachers in Beijing, 4 Outstanding Teachers in Vocational Education and 1 Outstanding Teacher in Beijing. There are 1 national teaching team and 10 municipal excellent teaching teams. In the past five years, it has invested a total of more than 30 million yuan, sent 30 teachers to study for doctoral degrees in foreign universities, selected 123 teachers to study in well-known enterprises and institutions of higher learning at home and abroad, cultivated 23 excellent teaching teams, 105 professional leaders and backbone teachers, and hired 45 foreign teachers for a long time. Lu Jiafu, a famous teacher of national “Ten Thousand Plan”, was hired as the chief expert of the college’s professional construction, and Chen Yong, a “Great Wall Scholar”, and Bai Bingru, a senior engineer and senior evaluation of aircraft riveting and assembly fitter, were hired as the professional leaders of the college. In the past five years, teachers of the college have won one first prize of National Vocational Education teaching Achievement award and 22 Beijing Teaching Achievement Awards, ranking first in total in the city. Won the first prize in the Basic Teaching Skills Competition for Young Teachers in Beijing Colleges and Universities for five consecutive years; In the national Vocational College teachers teaching Ability (information teaching) competition, won 12 first prizes.
In the past five years, vocational students have won more than 30 first prizes in national skills competitions, ranking third in the country. Through training students to win the greater China region and the National Middle college Students mathematical Contest in Modeling 5 first prize. For many consecutive years, it has been awarded “Advanced Unit of Employment for College Graduates in Beijing” and “Demonstration Entrepreneurship Center for Colleges and universities in Beijing”. It has been ranked among the top 50 demonstration universities for innovation and entrepreneurship in higher vocational colleges. The employment rate of graduates is more than 98%, and the degree of enterprise satisfaction is more than 95%.
