Chongqing University of Arts and Sciences (CUAS) is a full-time comprehensive institution of higher education under the leadership of Chongqing Municipal Government of P.R. China. It is in Yongchuan district with two campuses: Honghe and Xinghu. On campus are studying nearly 20,000 undergraduates, more than 50 foreign students and 500 joint-training postgraduates. In 2021, CUAS was officially approved as a master’s degree granting unit, along with 3 master’s degree authorization stations for master’s degree in Machinery, Materials and Chemical Engineering, and Agriculture.Adhering to the ideas of “developing applied disciplines, conducting applied research, nurturing applied talents and developing high-level application-oriented university”, through the 46 years, CUAS has developed into a well-known University in the western China. According to Shanghai Ranking and China University Alumni Ranking (CUAA), CUAS is ranked among the Top10 in Chongqing and the Top 400 in China (281st).
CUAS is boasted with excellent faculties. Among them, there are more than 180 professors and 400 associate professors, 370 teachers with doctoral degree, 130 part-time PhD or master supervisors, 20 foreign teachers, 300 visiting or part-time professors. Meanwhile, 8 Innovation teams (groups) of Chongqing, 7 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Team of Chongqing and 1 Workstation for postdoctoral are located on campus.
CUAS consists of 19 schools and offers 66 undergraduate majors, covering 10 kinds of discipline such as Literature, Economic, Agriculture, Science, Engineering, Management, Arts, Education, Law etc. It is boated with 2 national first-class courses, 7 municipal key disciplines, 10 municipal specialized majors, 48 municipal-level first-class courses (online open courses), and 2 majors were approved by the Ministry of Education for the Sino-foreign cooperative undergraduate education program.
CUAS has closely combines the industrial development needs of Chongqing, focusing on new materials, big data, artificial intelligence, intelligent manufacturing, chemical and pharmaceutical, modern agriculture, ecological environment and other fields. CUAS focusing on building New Materials Technology Research Institute, International Research Institute of Innovative Targeted Drugs, Special Plant Research Institute, Robotics and Intelligent Equipment Research Institute and other new research institutes. At present, CUAS is boasted with 3 national-level research platforms, 27 municipal-level scientific research platforms.
In the past five years, over 80 national projects in CUAS are sponsored by the National Natural Science Fund or National Social Science Fund. Some of the research findings have been published in Nature, Cell and other world top Journals and more than 1800 academic articles have been collected by SCI and SSCI. Meanwhile, 45 research projects have been granted with municipal-level or higher Award for scientific/technological Achievements, 900 patents have been granted to the CUAS faculty involved.
CUAS attaches great importance to developing international cooperation and exchange. It has successively established sister relationships with more than 30 universities from over 20 countries such as United States, Russia, Italy, Malaysia etc. At present, the focus is on holding Sino-foreign Cooperative Education Projects with the University of North Carolina at Wilmington in the United States and Kuzbass State Technical University in Russia, and “2+2” undergraduate and master joint training programs with Tomsk Polytechnic University and Tomsk State University in Russia, and joint training programs with the University of Perugia in Italy. It also cooperating with the University College Sedaya to organize the undergraduate and master’s degree programs. The “China-Russia Science and Education Cooperation and Exchange Platform” was approved as a special project of Chongqing Internationalization. In recent years, more than 10 students have been granted with the financial support from the China Scholarship Council to study abroad every year.
More than forty years’ journey, with adherence to the motto “to nurture with arts and sciences, to develop with virtues and professions”, to implement the development strategy of “innovation and openness, standing upright”, comprehensively promote the development of application-oriented in-depth transformation, and strive to create CUAS into a regional, international, high-level application-oriented University.
