Guiyang University was established in 2004 by the merger of Guiyang Teachers college and Guiyang Jinzhu University. In 2009, Guiyang Normal School founded by Mr. Li Duanfen in 1902 was integrated into Guiyang College. In 2010, the university passed the undergraduate teaching qualification assessment of the Ministry of Education. In 2017, the university was reviewed and evaluated by the Ministry of Education.
