Outstanding International Graduate | Ange: My Unforgettable Years at HUAT

Listen to this article

Over the years in university, my thoughts on learning and technology have matured. Initially, I pursued education to accumulate knowledge and obtain a degree. However, as I began to understand how technology could address some of the stubborn issues in our lives and followed excellent teachers to learn about the development of computers and the principles of the hardware and software industry, I gradually discovered what I most wanted to do: work with fellow partners to solve some of the unresolved challenges in human society through technology.

— Ange, a student from the Democratic Republic of Congo, an outstanding graduate of Hubei University of Automotive Technology in 2023.

I have always been particularly interested in programming and software development, often completing my own projects. In 2022, I participated in the “World Vocational College Skills Competition – Maze Robot Competition.” For me, this was the first project that involved a real combination of software and hardware, and later, when I took courses in “Computer Architecture” and “Computer Automatic Control Systems,” my perspective on computer automation changed significantly. Consequently, my graduation project was the development of my personal version of an “Smart Home System.”

In addition to exploring my major knowledge and consistently maintaining the top academic performance, I have also been continuously improving my Mandarin proficiency and gaining a deeper understanding of Chinese culture. I passed the HSK Level 4 (269/300) and Level 5 (251/300) exams.

Under the guidance of professors Su Zibo, Fang Peng, and Zhang Tingting, I participated in numerous competitions, such as the “Hubei Provincial Foreign Students’ Speech Competition” where I received an Excellent Award, and the third prize in the “ASEAN Exchange Week Foreign Students and Youth Micro-video Creation” competition, as well as first place in the 2021 and 2022 “Chinese Language Knowledge Competition for Foreign Students at Hubei Automotive Industrial Institute.” I am very grateful to my university for providing me with so many opportunities to showcase my abilities.

Furthermore, I have learned the importance of balancing work and leisure. Sometimes, driven by my goals and positive energy, I might forget to eat, drink, or even rest. However, the campus environment has instilled in me the habit of staying active, such as playing football and badminton regularly. These are valuable gains for me, and I hope to maintain them throughout my life.

Finally, I want to express my gratitude to all my teachers, especially Ma Chunjiang for “Data Structure and Program Design,” Zhou Xiao for “Calculus” and “Linear Algebra,” Chen Zhichu for “Analog Electronics” and “Digital Electronics,” Fazal for “Computer Architecture,” Ihar for “Intelligent Connected Vehicle Technology” and “Computer Automatic Control Systems,” and Qi Xin for “Advanced Java Application Development.” My graduation project supervisor, Tang Hai, also deserves special thanks. They have illuminated my path of learning and technology. I would also like to thank my classmates and friends. I will not forget the help of each and every person.
