The university is not only the university with the largest number of students in Shanghai, but also an important platform for Shanghai to build a lifelong education system and a learning society. The school affairs committee is composed of the vice mayor in charge of education of Shanghai, who is also the director, and the heads of relevant departments, organizations and schools of the municipal Party committee and the municipal government. The school actively gives play to the role of Shanghai learning society construction service guidance center, and makes every effort to promote the construction of citizens’ lifelong learning and learning organizations; Give full play to the role of Shanghai lifelong education credit bank management center, and carry out the identification, accumulation and transformation of various learning achievements; Responsible for the construction and operation of Shanghai lifelong learning portal – Shanghai learning network and series of special learning networks, as well as Shanghai Education Resource Database with a total resource of 15t, so as to provide one-stop learning support services for citizens.
As the host unit of UNESCO’s “sister university network for distance and open learning”, the university has successively won the important award of UNESCO for the application of information and communication technology in education and teaching – “King Hamad” award, the “group Excellence Award” of the International Council for distance education and the “excellent supporting institution Award” of the African Council for distance education. The university has established strategic cooperation with open universities in Britain, the Netherlands and other countries and the African Distance Education Council, and has passed the education quality review of the International Distance Education Council.
