About Wuyi University

Wuyi University, established by Guangdong Provincial People’s Government in 1985, is a multi-disciplinary university focusing on engineering. It is a local university in Guangdong Province that obtained the right to confer master’s and bachelor’s degrees earlier. It has the qualifications of accepting overseas Chinese students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan and international students, and recommending outstanding fresh graduates to study for postgraduate studies without examination. It is now a construction unit of a high-level university of science and engineering in Guangdong Province, and a project for granting doctoral degrees.

The school adheres to the motto of “studious, thoughtful, realistic and innovative”, adheres to the school-running philosophy of “rooting in hometown of overseas Chinese, serving the society, working together internally and externally, and developing with characteristics”, and actively cultivates high-quality applied talents with high moral character, solid basic knowledge, international vision, strong practical ability and innovative entrepreneurial ability, and meeting the needs of local economic and social development.

The school is located in Jiangmen City, Guangdong Province, which is an important node city in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the “first hometown of overseas Chinese in China”. The campus covers an area of more than 1,000 mu with a total construction area of nearly 700,000 square meters. Beautiful environment, complete infrastructure and good conditions for running a school. The school recruits undergraduate students from 24 provinces, autonomous regions, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, and graduates from home and abroad. At present, there are nearly 24,000 students of all kinds, including nearly 20,000 full-time undergraduates and more than 1,000 graduate students.

The school has 19 teaching institutions and 88 undergraduate majors (directions), involving 7 disciplines such as engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law and art, with science and engineering majors (directions) accounting for 67%. There are 6 state-level first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites, and 5 state-level specialty and national specialty comprehensive reform pilots. There are 9 provincial-level undergraduate majors, 39 provincial-level key (famous brand) majors and provincial-level applied talents training demonstration majors. There is one national off-campus practical education base for college students, 24 provincial practical teaching bases for college students, 5 provincial demonstration teacher education practice bases and 14 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers. There are a number of experimental training bases, such as the comprehensive training center of modern industrial production technology, the experimental center of the College of Biotechnology and Great Health, and the Learning Hall of Artificial Intelligence. Among them, the “Comprehensive Training Center of Modern Industrial Production Technology” is an important base for schools to train innovative talents of modern technology that meet the needs of the industry, and it is a demonstration training center that integrates the functions of personnel training, scientific research, technological innovation, enterprise service, students’ innovation and entrepreneurship, etc. The quality of personnel training in schools has been widely recognized by the society, and the initial employment rate of undergraduates has been in the forefront of public undergraduate universities in the province for many years.

The school has 10 provincial key disciplines, 7 first-level discipline master’s degree authorization points, 3 two disciplines master’s degree authorization points and 5 professional master’s degree authorization categories, and the master’s degree authorization covers all science and engineering majors in the school.

There are more than 1,200 full-time teachers in the school. Full-time teachers account for 44% of senior titles and 53% of doctoral degrees. There are 31 national high-level talents (including 5 academicians, 5 Changjiang scholars, 4 national “Jieqing”, 1 overseas “Jieqing”, 1 national “Youqing”, 1 national “Ten Thousand Talents Program”, etc.), 23 provincial high-level talents and 70 overseas outstanding talents.

The school has one provincial key laboratory, one provincial new research and development institution, seven provincial engineering and technology research centers, two provincial humanities and social science research bases, one provincial intangible cultural heritage research base, one provincial literary and art review base, one provincial regional industrial intellectual property analysis and evaluation center and 59 municipal and departmental scientific research platforms. The school has made great efforts to build high-level innovation platforms such as “South China Biomedical Animal Model Research Institute”, “Digital Optical Chip Joint Laboratory”, “Jiangmen Great Health International Innovation Research Institute”, “Textile New Materials Guangdong-Hong Kong Joint Laboratory” and “Jiangmen Marine Innovation and Development Research Center” in the fields of biomedicine, new materials and intelligent manufacturing, so as to serve the high-quality development of local economy and society.

The school has vigorously carried out foreign exchanges and cooperation, and has successively established cooperative relations with more than 60 universities and scientific research institutions in 18 countries and regions including the United States, Britain, Germany, Australia, Japan, Portugal, Hong Kong and Macao, and carried out substantive cooperation in discipline construction, personnel training, academic research and teacher training. Among them, 13 high-level universities or scientific research institutions, including Rutgers University, Rhode Island University, Wollongong University, British Columbia University, Liverpool University, Liverpool Tropical Medical College, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Macau University, etc., have jointly established joint training bases for overseas graduate students, and conducted short-term training programs with countries and regions along the the belt and road initiative.
