Yunnan Vocational and Technical College of Agriculture is a full-time public higher education institution approved by the Yunnan Provincial People’s Government and registered by the Ministry of Education. The school has the brand of Yunnan Breeding and Promotion Center.

The predecessor of the College is Yunnan sericulture school, which was founded in 1904. It is the first of its kind in Yunnan vocational education. It is a higher vocational college that integrates agriculture, food and medicine, general health, engineering, economic management, electronic information and other specialties with its advantages and characteristics. It is a national high-quality vocational college, a national high-quality school for rural revitalization talents training, a model higher vocational college in Yunnan Province, a model school for socialist core values education in Yunnan Province, a national demonstration base for cultivating new professional farmers and a national pilot unit for modern apprenticeship. It is “China-Myanmar Agricultural Technology Training Center” of the Ministry of Agriculture, the national demonstration base for cultivating new professional farmers, the training base for high-quality provincial vocational education teachers, the Yunnan Agricultural Vocational Education Training Center, and the Yunnan Farmers Entrepreneurship Guidance Service Center. It is the secretary general unit of Yunnan Agricultural Standardization Technical Committee, Yunnan Agricultural Society and Yunnan Agricultural Vocational Education Group. The College consists of eight colleges and three departments (College of Agriculture and Horticulture Technology, College of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, College of Food, Medicine and Great Health, College of Engineering, College of Internet Technology, College of Economics and Management, College of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, College of Marxism, Foundation Department, Sports Department, Ministry of Public Art and Education). There are 571 faculty members, including 28 professors, 118 associate professors, 1 Yunling famous teacher, 16 doctoral students and 213 master students. There are 186 “double-qualification” teachers, 98 of whom are qualified as appraisers of agricultural vocational skills. 3 provincial famous teachers; 101 educational and teaching reforms at or above the provincial level, including 15 at the national level; There are 107 national patents and 10 new varieties declared by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Won 46 awards at or above the provincial level, including 3 scientific and technological progress awards.

The College offers 54 majors with 14,000 registered students. Among them, horticulture technology, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, and engineering cost are recognized as national backbone majors by the Ministry of Education, while horticulture technology, engineering cost, animal husbandry and veterinary medicine, crop production technology, Chinese herbal medicine cultivation technology, agricultural product processing and quality inspection, and financial management are seven provincial backbone majors.

The existing College has Jiaoling Campus, Xiaoshao Campus and Malong Campus (Yunnan Mountain Animal Husbandry Science and Technology Demonstration Park), which covers an area of over 10,000 mu. Shaoxiao campus has more than 700 acres of internship farms, and Malone campus has more than 8,000 acres of training bases. At present, there are 76 on-campus training bases, 126 experimental training rooms and 188 off-campus training bases. There are 13 on-campus training bases at or above the provincial level, including standardized pig breeding, modern pollution-free laying hens breeding and productive training bases for space vegetables. Among them, two productive demonstration training bases for standardized pig breeding and space vegetables are recognized by the Ministry of Education as productive training bases jointly established by national schools and enterprises, and garden training parks are training bases supported by the central government. The “double-qualified” teacher training base for food processing was recognized as the national “double-qualified” teacher training base by the Ministry of Education, and the collaborative innovation center for agricultural product quality and safety detection and application technology was recognized as the national collaborative innovation center for application technology by the Ministry of Education. There are 3 provincial skill master studios and 1 provincial virtual simulation training center.

The school has always adhered to the talent training concept of “agriculture-oriented, serving agriculture, rural areas and farmers”, explored and formed the talent training mode of “whole-process”, and provided strong talent support for serving agriculture, rural areas and farmers and serving regional social and economic development.

First, the College has a long history and glorious tradition.

The predecessor of the College was Yunnan sericulture school founded in 1904. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, it was renamed Kunming Agricultural Technology School. In 1958, Yunnan Animal Husbandry and Veterinary School was established. In 1962, Kunming Agricultural Technical School was renamed Yunnan Agricultural School. In 2002, with the approval of Yunnan Provincial People’s Government, Yunnan Agricultural School and Yunnan Animal Husbandry and Veterinary School merged to form Yunnan Agricultural Vocational and Technical College. In 2018, the school was managed by the Department of Education, and Yunnan Breeding and Poultry Breeding and Promotion Center was incorporated into the school and the brand of Yunnan Breeding and Promotion Center was added to the school. In the 117-year history of running a school, the school has delivered more than 50,000 agricultural science and technology talents to the society.

The development of our College is closely related to several important events in Yunnan history, and it has made important contributions in major historical events, and has a glorious revolutionary tradition. In 1913, Marshal Zhu De taught gymnastics in the school, and in 1929, Wang Desan, the first secretary of Yunnan Provincial Party Committee, taught here. From 1938 to 1939, the School of Science, College of Literature and Law and Business of the former National Southwest United University ran a school in the college’s Jinling campus, and from 1941 to 1942, the original teaching building of the school was the Flying Tigers Hostel.

Two, the school has distinctive characteristics and good conditions for running a school.

The College always adheres to the guiding ideology of “agriculture-oriented”. In the long-term practice of running a school, the school insists on taking root in the agricultural industry and sticking to the field of vocational education. The school actively explores and innovates the training mode of vocational talents in higher agriculture. Under the guidance of the strategy of developing the school with characteristics, it insists on the combination of work and study, school-enterprise cooperation as the starting point, and takes the major demand of agricultural science and technology with characteristics in Yunnan Plateau as the guidance, and gradually explores and forms a unique “whole process” talent training mode. In the characteristic evaluation of higher vocational colleges, In recent years, the school has passed the evaluation of teaching level and the evaluation of characteristics of higher vocational colleges with excellent results, and has become a model higher vocational college in Yunnan Province and a national high-quality higher vocational college.

With the goal of cultivating applied talents of higher technology, the College implements the education mode of paying equal attention to college diploma and vocational qualification certificate. Adhere to the “service-oriented, employment-oriented” vocational education policy, so that students can have the modern professional quality of “employment advantage, entrepreneurial ability, foundation for continuing education and room for development”. When students graduate, in addition to graduation certificates, more than 90% of the students have obtained professional qualification certificates of corresponding majors. The employment situation of school graduates is good, and the quality of employment is constantly improving. In recent years, the year-end employment rate of graduates has remained above 98%, and for the ninth consecutive year, it won the first prize of the target responsibility assessment for employment and entrepreneurship of college graduates in Yunnan Province. The school attaches great importance to and constantly cultivates students’ awareness and ability of innovation and entrepreneurship, and college students’ entrepreneurship has achieved gratifying results. In recent years, nearly 300 graduates have successfully started their own businesses, and won the “Advanced Collective for Encouraging College Students to Start Their own Businesses in Yunnan Province” for three consecutive years. In 2016, as the only higher vocational college, it won the Innovation Award for Employment and Entrepreneurship of College Graduates in the province.
