Zhejiang University of Agriculture and Forestry is located in Lin’an District, Hangzhou City, the western end of Hangzhou City West Science and Technology Innovation Corridor, is a key university in Zhejiang Province, Zhejiang Provincial People’s Government and the State Forestry and Grassland Bureau jointly built universities. Founded in 1958 as Tianmu Forestry College, the university was renamed Zhejiang Forestry College in 1966 and Zhejiang University of Agriculture and Forestry in 2010. After more than 60 years of construction, the university has developed into a multidisciplinary university featuring agriculture, forestry, biology and environmental disciplines, covering eight disciplines, and has established a complete system of undergraduate training and degree authorization.

The university has three campuses, namely Donghu, Yijin and Zhuji, covering an area of more than 3,200 mu, with a building area of more than 900,000 square metres and a total value of 493 million yuan in instruments and equipment. There are 20 faculties (departments) and 69 undergraduate majors, including 14 national first-class majors, 4 national specialties, 1 national comprehensive professional reform pilot project, 2 national new engineering projects, 5 national new agricultural projects, 1 national new liberal arts project, 7 majors under the national excellence in agriculture and forestry education talent training program, 1 national experimental teaching platform, 1 engineering education certified major and 1 internationally certified major. There are 15 provincial-level first-class majors, 12 provincial-level key majors, 7 provincial-level advantageous majors, and 9 provincial-level specialties (including emerging specialties). There are 1 advantageous and characteristic discipline in Zhejiang Province, 3 first-class disciplines (A class) and 9 first-class disciplines (B class) in Zhejiang Province, and 5 key disciplines and key cultivation disciplines of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration. There are 6 authorised doctoral degrees, 19 authorised master’s degrees and 16 authorised professional degrees. The university has 5 national innovation platforms, including the National Key Laboratory, National Engineering Technology Research Centre, National Local Joint Engineering Laboratory, National Base for Cultural Communication and National “111 Program” Intellectual Guide Base, and 45 provincial and ministerial innovation platforms.

The university is open to students from 31 provinces (municipalities and autonomous regions) and has 15,966 full-time undergraduate students, 4,069 postgraduate students, 781 international students and 2,033 teaching staff. In recent years, the university has won two national teaching achievement second-class awards and nine provincial excellent teaching achievement first-class awards. There are 9 national first-class undergraduate courses, 107 provincial first-class undergraduate courses, 27 provincial high-quality courses, 15 provincial model courses in Civic and Political Science, 9 provincial virtual simulation courses and 31 provincial virtual simulation courses; there is a national experimental teaching demonstration centre and an experimental zone for innovation of talent training mode in Zhejiang Province. In the past five years, students have won more than 2,900 prizes at provincial and ministerial levels in various subject competitions, including one gold medal and three silver medals in the China “Internet +” Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. The university has actively promoted innovation and entrepreneurship education, and a number of outstanding students have emerged, such as the “National Advanced Individual in Employment and Entrepreneurship” and the “China Student Self-improvement Star”.

The university has been awarded the second prize of National Technical Invention, eight second prizes of National Scientific and Technological Progress, one third prize of National Scientific and Technological Progress, eleven first prizes of Science and Technology of Zhejiang Province, and four first prizes of Provincial Excellent Achievements in Philosophy and Social Science. The university has carried out various forms of science and technology promotion and social services with more than 50 counties and cities in Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Jiangsu, Anhui, Guizhou and Sichuan provinces, etc. The university has been awarded as the advanced unit of twinning support work in Zhejiang Province for three times in a row, and won the excellent unit of 2021 twinning support assessment, and was awarded as the advanced dispatch unit of science and technology commissioner in Zhejiang Province for 14 times in a row, and was awarded as the national science and technology commissioner in 2009. In 2013, the school was approved as a national training base for science and technology missionaries, and in 2014, the school was awarded the title of “National Advanced Group for Social Poverty Alleviation” by the State Council’s Poverty Alleviation Office, and the team of dried fruit science and technology missionaries was listed as “the most beautiful science and technology personnel” by the Ministry of Propaganda.
