With the first-level discipline of Drama and Film and Television science as the core of discipline construction, the university has built a leading and world-class discipline system of film science and played an important role in leading major construction and talent training. The two first-level disciplines of fine arts and theory of fine arts under the category of fine arts should be complementary and advanced together with the discipline of film science, so as to appropriately develop interdisciplinary disciplines such as social science and engineering technology. As of September 2018, the university has 3027 full-time students, including 2083 undergraduates. The school has 561 staff members, including 336 full-time teachers and 85 external teachers. In the 70 years since its establishment, the school has cultivated tens of thousands of excellent professionals in film production, film theoretical research, film digital technology, cultural management and related fields for The Chinese film industry, exerting an important influence on film education at home and abroad. Among the artists trained are Chen Qiang, Xie Tian, Pang Xueqin, Yu Yang, Wu Yigong, Xie Fei, Zheng Dongtian, Li Qiankuan, Guo Baochang and Zhai Junjie, among others. Zhang Yimou, Chen Kaige, Tian Zhuangzhuang, Li Shaohong, Tang Guoqiang, Song Chunli, Zhang Tielin, Zhang Fengyi, Wang Zhiwen, Xu Qing, Jiang Wenli, Huang Lei, Lu Chuan, Jia Zhangke and other young and middle-aged filmmakers represented; Xu Jinglei, Ning Hao, Zhao Wei, Chen Kun, Huang Bo, Zhou Dongyu, Guan Xiaotong, Wang Junkai and a large number of new film stars. In each era, teachers, students and alumni have produced a large number of works with profound ideas, exquisite art and excellent production, such as Dr. Bethune, Sanjie Liu and Disturbance in Heaven in the 1960s; In the 1970s, Sakura, Floret and Nezha made the Sea; “Red Sorghum” and “Camel Xiangzi” in the 1980s; In the 1990s, “Founding Ceremony”, “Farewell My Concubine”, “Raise the Red Lantern” and “In the Sunshine”; After 2000, hoh Xil, Crazy Stone, Let the Bullets Fly, Mr. Six, Dying to Survive, Operation Red Sea and The Wandering Earth were all created by alumni of the school. In previous “Huabiao Award”, “Golden Rooster Award”, “Five One Project Award” and other winners, graduates account for more than 80% of the winners. Most of the Chinese films that have won awards at major A-category international film festivals such as Cannes, Venice and Berlin are produced by alumni of THE Beijing Film Academy. The graduates are also the most important source of film and television teachers in more than one thousand colleges and universities offering film and television related majors, and most of them have become academic leaders and backbone teachers.
