Guangzhou is a sprawling port city northwest of Hong Kong on the Pearl River. The city features avant-garde architecture such as Zaha Hadid’s Guangzhou Opera House (known as the “double pebble”); the carved box-shaped Guangdong Museum; and the iconic Canton TV Tower skyscraper, resembling a thin hourglass. About Guangdong University of Foreign Studies South China Business College

Ratified by the Ministry of Education of China and established by Guangdong University of Foreign Studies (GDUFS), South China Business College (SCBC) of Guangdong University of Foreign Studies is a privately-funded independent institution offering undergraduate programs.

SCBC is conveniently located close to State Highway G105 (the Guangzhou-Conghua Highway) in Baiyun District of Guangzhou, a famous historical and cultural city in China, and the economic and commercial center in South China. Covering an area of about 900 mu (around 150 acres), the campus boasts a good environment of its lush greenery, fresh air, peaceful lakes, exquisite landscaped gardens, and verdant surroundings. Thanks to its fully-equipped facilities, its well-qualified faculty, and its strict and standard teaching management, this beautiful college makes an ideal place for the aspiring young to study and to pursue their goals.

Thirteen schools, with auxiliary divisions, carry on the college’s programs of teaching, research, and service. They are:

Based on this solid academic structure, the College offers 43 undergraduate programs: English, Business English, Translation, Japanese, Arabic, Korean, Thai, French, German, Spanish, Russian, Portuguese, International Trade and Economics, E-commerce, International Business, Finance, Economics, Investment, Taxation, Economic Statistics, Financial Engineering, Business Economics, Accounting, Logistics Management, Marketing, Tourism Management, Financial Management, Exhibition Economy and Management, Human Resource Management, Hotel Management, Chinese Language and Literature, Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages, Applied Linguistics, Computer Science and Technology, Digital Media Technology, Software Engineering, Network Engineering, Internet of Things Engineering, Preschool Education, Primary School Education (English), and Network and New Media, which fall into five discipline categories, Literature, Economics, Management, Engineering and Education. The college now enrolls nearly 10,000 full-time students.

SCBC’s Accounting Specialty has been approved as a national first-class undergraduate specialty construction project, and five other specialties—English, Translation, Japanese, Korean, and International Economy and Trade—have been approved as provincial first-class undergraduate specialty construction projects. The college also has two provincial-level featured key disciplines, English Language and Literature, and International Trade. Its prominent reputation is strengthened by important scientific research platforms, such as the key research base of humanities and social sciences in Guangdong’s higher education institutions—the Research Center for Multilingual Translation and Introduction of Chinese Culture, the Center of Polar Studies approved by the Ministry of Education (member of China-Nordic Arctic Research Center), the Airport Economy Collaborative Innovation Research Center (provincial level), and the Research Base for International Economic and Trade Rules and Standards. SCBC attaches great importance to building a rigorous, high-level teaching team of meticulous scholarship and full of vitality in order to achieve excellence in teaching and academic research. Currently, of the total faculty body, 41% are professors and associate professors, 24% with doctoral degrees, about one third with experiences of studying and/or working overseas.

In accordance with the College’s core values “comprehensive knowledge, sophisticated expertise, excellent foreign language proficiency and strong practical skills”, SCBC is dedicated to preparing application-and-innovation-featured students for achieving high morality, substantial expertise, strong practical ability, proficiency of one or more foreign languages, and competence for international cooperation and competition. Giving priority to foreign languages is a notable education trait of SCBC, which offers 12 foreign language programs, more than any other privately-funded independent institutions in Guangdong Province. Moreover, the college keeps promoting the interdisciplinary programs of “foreign language + specialty” and “specialty + foreign language” by offering bilingual immersion courses for non-English majors and the “2+2 International Credit Transfer Programs” for majors of Accounting, and International Business and Finance.

In response to the needs of an increasingly globalized economy, SCBC has taken the initiative to seek exchange and cooperation opportunities with overseas counterparts, so that it can turn out more innovative business professionals with international vision and well-acquainted with international rules and practices in the fields of Finance, Trade and Accounting. SCBC has founded cooperative partnership with more than 60 colleges, universities, and academic institutions in 21 countries and regions, including the US, the UK, Australia, Canada, Russia, Spain, Ireland, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Lithuania, the Republic of Korea, Japan and Egypt. The students are provided with convenient access to overseas studies during their college life or after graduation, including research visit, student exchange program, and credit transfer program.

Adhering to the socialist educational orientation and carrying out the state education policy, SCBC follows the education philosophy of “Running SCBC with quality, Invigorating SCBC with talents, Developing SCBC with distinctive features and Flourishing SCBC with culture”. It takes students training based on moral education as the primary task of development, connotation construction as core for development, education quality as the center, quality faculty as the key prop, distinctive features as the way to success, and cultural development as the spiritual guide, thus to help its effectiveness and progress of high-quality development be truly reflected in the continuous growth and progress of students, so that they can grow into competent personnel and better serve regional economic development and social progress.

As an independent undergraduate college with international vision, South China Business College (SCBC) has been actively promoting the educational, scientific and cultural exchanges and cooperation with overseas higher-learning institutions since its establishment in 2006.

Now SCBC has developed cooperation and exchange relations with 40 universities and academic institutions in 10 countries, namely, America, Canada, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, France, Korea, Japan, Germany, and Spain. With nearly 1,000 students successively participating in different forms of study and/or practice programs in foreign countries, SCBC has cultivated a group of high-quality professional talents who are knowledgeable across both eastern and western cultures as well as proficient in foreign languages. Meanwhile, SCBC has admitted quite a few foreign students from France, Japan, and Korea. As a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in South China, SCBC is getting ready to receive American students from the “100,000 Strong: U.S. Students in China Initiative”. Furthermore, SCBC has formed connections with consulates in Guangzhou and business organizations of foreign countries, including America, Japan, Korea, Spain, Singapore, Holland, and Kuwait.

The foreign exchange and cooperation programs of SCBC include: (1) Student Exchange Program: SCBC and its foreign counterparts send students reciprocally; (2) Research and Study Program: SCBC sends students to its foreign counterparts for short-term studies and academic exchanges; (3) Further Study Program: SCBC students apply to study BA or MA programs in its foreign counterparts; (4) Internships or Practice in foreign countries: SCBC students participate in “Work & Travel in America”, short-term internships in Japan, etc.; (5) Overseas Summer Camps: There are various summer camps, including Cultural Experience in Korea, Short-term Training Camp in Japan, Travel and Study Camp in England and West Europe, and Romantic Travel Camp in France.

SCBC has set up its own Study Abroad Foundation with an appropriation of RMB 1.3 million Yuan to assist those who are excellent both in character and learning but financially inadequate to study abroad.
