About Guizhou Normal University

Guizhou Normal University (GZNU), founded in 1941, with the former name of “National Guiyang Teacher’s College”, was one of the eight national teachers’ colleges in China at that time. In October 1950, it was renamed as “Guiyang Teachers’ College”. And 4 years later, Ministry of Education entrusted the People’s Government of Guizhou Province to manage it. It was formally entitled “Guizhou Normal University” in 1985 and honored as one of the provincial key university jointly built by Ministry of Education and the People’s Government of Guizhou Province in 1996. In 2017 it was selected as “The First Batch of National Demonstration Universities for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform”.

With 3 campuses of Baoshan Campus, Baiyun Campus and Huaxi Campus, GZNU comprises 24 schools, a School of Further Education and an independent college (Qiushi College). The library has more than 2, 821, 000 printed books. It has more than 42, 700 full-time students and a faculty team of 2, 599 members in total, including 309 professors and 699 associate professors. 349 talents have been awarded national honorary titles and provincial honorary titles.

GZNU has a complete range of disciplines, covering 11 disciplines such as philosophy, literature and education. There are 32 programs offering doctoral degree, 116 programs offering master degree and 86 undergraduate programs. GZNU is rich in education and teaching resources—9 national bases, 9 national scientific research platforms, 32 provincial scientific research platforms and 13 provincial scientific and technological innovation talent teams.

GZNU attaches great importance to intercommunication and cooperation, and actively conducts academic exchanges with universities and institutions abroad. GZNU cooperates with the Scottish Qualification Management Committee to award the UK Diploma in Higher Education program (SQA-AD), Cooperates with Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) to offer the undergraduate international general education course (IGEC), and cooperates with University of Central Oklahoma on Chinese-Foreign Cooperation in Running Schools program.

Until now, more than 280, 000 students graduated as qualified talents from GZNU, and GZNU is developing into a normal university with distinctive characteristics of teacher education and coordinated development of multi-disciplines, which has made a positive contribution to the economic and social development in Guizhou province.

Advantages

The predecessor of the International Education College of Guizhou Normal University was the British Higher Education Diploma Program Department established in 2009. In 2014, as the school increased international cooperation in running schools, the International Education College was formally established. The college is located in the Baoshan campus of Guizhou Normal University (located in the center of Guiyang, the provincial capital), and undertakes the enrollment and management of students from Sino-foreign cooperative education projects and international students in China.

The college currently has the British Higher Education Diploma (SQA AD) program, the International General Education Course (IGEC) program, and the music science undergraduate education program jointly organized with the Central University of Oklahoma in the United States. It has cooperation with 55 British and American universities such as the University of Chester, the University of Hull, the University of Alfred, and the University of Gannon. There are 5 undergraduate majors in Tourism Management (International Hotel Management) (SQA AD), Computer Science and Technology (Software Development) (SQA AD), Marketing (IGEC), Tourism Management (IGEC), and Musicology.

The college undertakes the examination work of the Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK) test center and the Cambridge Level 5 Examination (MSE) test center. There are currently more than 2,280 full-time students at home and abroad.

The teachers of the college have overseas study backgrounds in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Hong Kong, and Macau. They are able to conduct bilingual teaching with internationally advanced teaching concepts and methods. They are trained by the Overseas Education Service Center of the Ministry of Education and British experts.
