About Hainan Medical University

Hainan Medical University is located in Haikou, the provincial capital of Hainan Province which has been running for over 72 years, It shoulders the mission of training high-level medical and health talents for China (Hainan) free trade experimental and the construction of free trade ports with Chinese characteristics, as well as the initial of “one belt and one way” and the strategy of South China Sea.

The main campus in Chengxi base area covers an area of 606.21 mu, Branch Campus in Guilinyang base area covers an area of 868.35 mu. HMU has 4 affiliated hospitals with over 7500 open beds. It also has doctoral education, master degree education, foreign student education, general undergraduate education, higher vocational and adult education and other multi-level education qualifications, the existing clinical medicine first-tier discipline doctorate science degree authorization point; Basic medicine, clinical medicine, pharmacy, traditional Chinese medicine, biology and other 5 first-tier disciplines master degree authorization point, clinical medicine, public health, nursing, pharmacy, stomatology and other 5 master degree authorized majors. There are 27 undergraduate majors, covering four disciplines: medicine, science, management and engineering.The total enrollment at present is 12827 students,among with 9121 undergraduates (including 580 foreign students), 592 postgraduates (including 22 postgraduates studying abroad).The present staff number of HMU and its 4 affiliated hospitals are 10625,and there are 923 full-time teachers with master’s and doctor’s degree that accounting for 84.58% of full-time teachers, 397 doctorates (37.1%), 142 professors (13.27%) and 212 associate professors (19.81%).There are 21 Doctoral supervisors,277master supervisors,8 Doctoral supervisors co-developed with Nanjing Medical University, 7 flexible introduction for talents, 3 Yangtze River Scholars, 1 high-level talent of “1000 Talents Plan”, 30 experts with special allowance from State Council, 5 selected for National Talents Project, 4 selected for New Century Talent Project and 6 selected as the Excellent Talent of Hainan Province,1 famous teacher in traditional Chinese medicine universities around the country and 22 outstanding contribution experts at the provincial and ministerial level. At the same time, our university also engages over 80 famous professors at home and abroad as visiting professors.

The school also has 6 academician workstations and 2 postdoctoral research workstations.In cooperation with the Hong Kong University, the school has established the Hainan Medical University-University of Hong Kong Tropical Infectious Diseases Joint Laboratory.

With the construction of Hainan international tourism island, One Belt One Road construction, national strategy of South China Sea, China (Hainan) Pilot Free Trade Zone and Free trade port with Chinese characteristics and in order to strengthen educational exchanges and cooperation with tropical and developed countries and regions.At present, HMU possesses the largest scale of undergraduate education for international students in Hainan Province, having been recruiting students from 32 countries.HMU has cooperated with some universities as: University of Utah in the U.S., University of Nebraska in the U.S., Newcastle University in Britain, Queensland University of Technology in Australia, Chonnam National University in Korea, University of Navamin in Thailand, University of Tehran in Iran, Taipei Medical University in Taiwan in undergraduate exchange, joint training of master and doctoral students.
