Meeting with Friends on River Huai
We met on River Huai;
Not till drunk did we go.
We went as clouds float by;
In ten years waves still flow.
We laugh as in old days,
Though our hair has turned white.
Why don’t I go away?
I love autumn hills bright.
Meet or part, the river will ever flow and the poet will ever love his homeland.
This poem is a five-verse poem written by Wei Yingyu, a poet of the Tang Dynasty. It expresses the poet’s joy at meeting his old friend in the Huai River after a long absence of ten years, and his sadness at the passing of the years.
