Shanghai Wild Animal Park, located at No. 178, Nanliu Road, Pudong New Area 浦东新区, Shanghai 上海, is the first national wildlife park in China jointly built by the Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and the State Forestry Administration of China. It covers an area of 153 hectares (about 2300 mu), 35 kilometers from the center of Shanghai, and was officially opened to the public on November 18, 1995.

On May 8, 2007, Shanghai Wild Animal Park was officially approved as a national AAAAA tourist attraction by the National Tourism Administration. The park is home to more than 200 kinds of rare wild animals from home and abroad, including giant pandas, golden monkeys, golden takins, crested ibis, giraffes, zebras, antelopes, white rhinoceroses, cheetahs, and more than 10000 animals. In 1995, the Animal Arena of the Performance Department of Shanghai Wild Animal Park was built, which is the earliest dedicated venue for animal performance in Shanghai Wild Animal Park.

In November 1996, an animal performance venue, also known as the Beast Mountain Performance venue, was built. Since its completion, the Hundred Beasts Mountain Show has hosted many wonderful theme programs such as the National Animal Games, animal fashion shows, Spring Festival Gala, etc. The level of animal performance in Shanghai Wild Animal Park is in the leading position in China.

The flamingo exhibition area is the first place to be seen in Shanghai Wildlife Park, where nearly 200 birds live in groups. Therefore, flamingos have become the “welcome birds” of Shanghai Wildlife Park. Flamingo, named after its fire-red body, is mainly distributed in India, Africa, and Central and South America.

Flamingos live 20-30 years and feed on shrimp, clams, insects, algae, etc. Red is not the original feather color of flamingos but comes from the plankton they ingest. At the same time, the brighter the red is, the stronger the flamingos’ physique is, the more attractive they are to flamingos of the opposite sex, and the better their offspring will be.

The Kangaroo Slope 袋鼠坡 of Shanghai Wildlife Park covers an area of 2000 square meters. The green lawn is spacious and bright. More than 30 gray kangaroos and red kangaroos live here. They are gentle. Tourists can feed kangaroos near kangaroos, touch their babies, and hold their mothers’ hands to take pictures with them.

The Asian Elephant Exhibition Area 亚洲象展区 of Shanghai Wildlife Park covers an area of 30 mu, the largest Asian elephant group in East China. The exhibition area simulates the ecological environment of Asian elephants and is rich in subtropical customs. Asian elephants collectively show their skills to tourists: carrying wood, spraying water, watering flowers, making beauty, etc.

The Takin Pavilion 羚牛馆 of Shanghai Wildlife Park covers an area of more than 2000 square meters. The exhibition area is decorated with rockeries, waterfalls, tall trees, material chutes, and water tanks. The ground is made of stone and sand. The water permeability is quite good, which is very helpful to the health of animals. One of the greatest characteristics of takins is rock climbing, so the greatest feature of this venue is that it is designed completely according to animal habits to meet the climbing requirements of golden takins.

The exhibition area is designed in a simulated ecological way and is equipped with trees and shrubs. More than ten zebras take a leisurely walk. Tourists can watch zebras from a close distance and listen to the nurse explain the scientific knowledge of zebras; There are also zebras and ostriches from Africa who accompany each other to welcome tourists from all directions and bring more joy to everyone.
