About Southwest University
Founded in 2005, Southwest University (SWU) encompasses Southwest Normal University and Southwest Agricultural University, which share an origin dating back to 1906. The school enjoys a long-standing history as its fame through ceaseless strive towards academic innovation and integration with social development. As a member of “211 Project” and “Double First-class” universities, SWU has an extensive set of disciplinary categories including philosophy, economics, law, pedagogy, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, medicine, management and art. It is especially known for its distinctive teacher education and agricultural education.
Over the past century, SWU has been taking pride in its outstanding faculties and graduates. Among the renowned scholars who have shared their insights at SWU were HOU Guangjiong, father of agrology; ZHANG Furong, founder of teaching theory in China; XIANG Zhonghuai, developer of the first framework of silkworm genome in the world; and HUANG Xiting, psychologist and educationist. Their endeavors have attributed to various notable graduates, including YUAN Longping, father of hybrid rice; HU Jinchu, founder of ecological biology of pandas; SHI Tingmao and ZHAO Shuai, Olympic champions. Beside rigorous academic training, the school also nourishes the students with abundant convenient service for various lifestyle. International College was founded in March 2008. On behalf of Southwest university (SWU), International College is responsible for international student admission and administration, Chinese language and programs teaching (programs of Bachelor/Master/Ph.D. Degree in Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages).
International College is composed of six sections: Administration Office, International Students Admission Office, Academic Affairs Office, Student Affairs Office, Department of Chinese Language Teaching and Foreign Affairs Service Center. There are over 30 full-time and par-time teachers; half of them are professors or associate professors, and 85% of them have teaching or learning experience abroad. The College has many senior language teaching experts as part-time professors from home and abroad, responsible for teaching and related guidance.
Relying on SWU’s strong educational running strength and abundant international cooperation resources, International College has been actively exploring and innovating, and gradually formed its characteristics of international student education. Besides offering courses for international students majoring in Chinese, the College is also responsible for offering compulsory courses such as A Survey of China, and optional courses such as Business in China, calligraphy, Chinese Painting, Chinese Knitting, Chinese Dancing, Chinese Folk Music Appreciation, Chinese Martial Arts, etc.
International College holds various activities each year, such as International Culture Festival, Songkran Festival, Chinese Songs Competition, etc., promoting mutual exchanges and multicultural communication.
International College actively carries out exchanges and cooperation with institutions and organizations in foreign countries and regions. Overseas MTCSOL internship bases in Thailand, South Korea, Czech Republic, Japan and Armenia, and domestic education Internship bases in enterprises and institutions for international students have been established. The College has conducted joint-cultivation programs with Khon Kaen University of Thailand, University of Sacre-Coeur of Italy, Ain Shams University of Egypt, Yaroslavl State Normal University of Russia, and International Kazakhstan Chinese Language College, etc., and short-term visiting program and Summer Camp with St. John University of America and Inje University of Korea, etc.
For cozy learning and living, International College is equipped with modern teaching facilities and convenient international student dormitories, like digitalized audio-visual classrooms, multi-media/network classrooms, Chinese talent learning rooms,
Chinese culture experiencing rooms, rooms with individual public kitchens, washing machines, gyms, etc.
Due to great efforts of International College, SWU has won lots of awards, e.g. Advanced Unit for Foreign Affairs of
Chongqing Municipal, Outstanding Organization Award for China in ASEAN Students’ Eyes by the Ministry of Education, Advanced Unit for Foreign Student Education of Chongqing Municipal, etc.
