Westlake University, formerly known as Zhejiang West Lake Institute for Advanced Study, was established on February 14, 2018 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It is committed to gathering first-class teachers, creating first-class disciplines, cultivating first-class talents and producing first-class results. Strive to make outstanding contributions to the national strategy of rejuvenating the country through science and education and innovation-driven development.

We hope that in ten or twenty years, in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, there will be one of the most respected institutions of higher learning in the world, Westlake University, which is based on the land of China and full of Chinese characteristics. Here, it will have a batch of the most outstanding scientists in the world, the best young talent, cultivate engaged in basic and applied research of the cutting edge to explore suitable for China’s national conditions of scientific research and education systems and mechanisms, as China’s high-tech and supporting sustainable development provides a powerful engine, worthy of the Chinese nation’s contribution to world civilization.

Westlake University implements the president responsibility system under the leadership of the board of Directors. The Board of Directors is the highest decision-making body of the university. It also sets up the Board of Supervisors, the Advisory Committee, the School Affairs Committee and the Academic Committee. The Communist Party of China Westlake University Committee has been set up in accordance with regulations to give full play to its role as the political core, grasp the direction of socialist education, and participate in the decision-making and management of major issues of the university.

We welcome distinguished scholars, researchers and young scientists from a wide range of academic backgrounds. By 2026, Westlake is expected to have 300 assistant, associate, and full professors (including chair professors), 600 research, teaching, technical support, and administrative staff, and 900 postdoctoral fellows.
