About Xi’an Physical Education University

Xi’an Physical Education University was founded in 1954, formerly known as Northwest Institute of Physical Education, and renamed as Xi’an Physical Education University in 1956. It is one of the first six sports colleges and universities established in New China. It was formerly directly under the General Administration of Sport of the People’s Republic of China (the State Sports Commission). In 2001, it was jointly established by the Central and local governments. It is a college jointly established by the General Administration of Sport of the People’s Republic of China and the People’s Government of Shaanxi Province, Shaanxi Province plans to add a new construction unit authorized by doctoral degree.

The University now has three campuses, namely the headquarters, Fengyu and Yuyi, covering an area of more than 1300 mu. At present, there are more than 8200 undergraduate students and more than 1100 master students. The school has 9 colleges (Physical Education College, Sports Training College, Sports Leisure College, Martial Arts College, Health Science College, Sports Economy and Sports Management College, Art College, Sports Media College, Football College), and has a Marxist college, a graduate department, a continuing education college, and an affiliated competitive sports school. The school and the Track and Field Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of the People’s Republic of China jointly build a Chinese Walking School, a Chinese Throwing Academy with the Small Ball Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport of the People’s Republic of China, and the provincial school runs sports teams for taekwondo, boxing, karate, women’s volleyball, trampoline, track and field, and sanda.

The University has 2 first level disciplines and 10 second level disciplines to award master’s degrees, among which sports science is a first-class construction discipline in Shaanxi Province. Cooperate with Shanghai Institute of Physical Education to cultivate doctoral students. The university has 20 undergraduate majors, covering 7 disciplines including literature, science, economics, management, teaching, medicine and art. Since its establishment, the university has trained more than 60000 sports teachers, coaches, athletes and sports research, sports news, sports management and management professionals for the country. Physical education was approved as a national “first-class major” construction site, and Sports News Photography was shortlisted for the first batch of national online and offline hybrid first-class undergraduate courses. The university has established inter university cooperation with more than 50 universities and research institutions in 25 countries and regions.

The University has 832 faculty members, including one selected from the “National Hundred and Ten Thousand Talents Project”, one leading talent in philosophy and social sciences from the “High level Talents Special Support Plan” in Shaanxi Province, 11 experts enjoying special subsidies from the State Council, one national outstanding teacher, 15 famous teachers in Shaanxi Province, outstanding teachers in Shaanxi Province, and teachers’ moral model in Shaanxi Province, and 4 “Young Outstanding Talents Support Plan” in colleges and universities in Shaanxi Province. The University has first-class teaching, scientific research and training venues in China, and has a sports human science experiment center, a news experiment center, a voice experiment center, and a computer experiment center; At present, there are many provincial and ministerial research institutions, such as the Key Laboratory of Sports Technology Analysis and Skill Evaluation of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Key Research Base of Sports Social Science of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Sports Culture Center Base of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Research Base of Sports Law of Colleges and Universities of Shaanxi Province, the Sports Culture Research Base of Shaanxi Province, the Sports Industry Research and Development Center of Shaanxi Province, and the Shaanxi Institute of Fitness and Health for All. The library is the Northwest Sports Science Literature and Information Center, with a total collection of more than 790000 books.
