About Xi’an University of Technology

Xi’an University of Technology is a high-level university jointly built by the central and local governments and focused on the construction of Shaanxi Province. It is also the implementation college of the national plan for the revitalization of higher education in the central and western regions – the basic capacity construction project of colleges and universities in the central and western regions, and the “domestic first-class university construction college” in Shaanxi Province. In July 2020, the university will become a university jointly built by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and Shaanxi Province. The university is one of the important training bases and research centers for senior professionals in water conservancy and hydropower, equipment manufacturing, printing and packaging industries in northwest China.

The University has three campuses, Jinhua, Qujiang and Lianhu, and a university science park. There are more than 18000 full-time undergraduate students and nearly 9000 doctoral and postgraduate students. There are more than 2660 faculty members, including more than 1000 with senior professional titles. At present, there are 17 colleges and 1 teaching department, 69 undergraduate majors, 10 of which are national characteristic specialty construction sites, 16 of which have passed the certification (evaluation) of engineering education, 25 of which have been selected as national first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites, 38 of which have been selected as Shaanxi first-class undergraduate specialty construction sites, 16 of which are Shaanxi characteristic specialty construction sites, and 8 of which are Shaanxi famous brands. There are 21 undergraduate experimental teaching centers, including 3 national experimental teaching demonstration centers, 18 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, and 3 provincial virtual simulation experimental teaching centers.

The University insists on taking discipline construction as the leading role, solidly promotes the construction of first-class disciplines, and steadily improves its core competitiveness. The university is one of the first universities to obtain the right to grant doctorate, master’s degree and bachelor’s degree in China. Postgraduate education began in 1960, and the Graduate School was established in 2011. There are 15 first level disciplines authorized for doctoral degrees, 2 doctoral professional degree authorization points, 27 first level disciplines authorized for master’s degrees, and 13 master’s professional degree authorization points, covering all undergraduate majors. At present, it has 1 national first level key discipline (covering 5 second level disciplines), 21 key disciplines in Shaanxi Province, and 12 superior disciplines in Shaanxi Province. Engineering discipline, material science discipline and environmental/ecological discipline rank in the top 1% of the ESI global disciplines, among which engineering ranks 3 ‰ in the ESI global ranking and material science ranks 5 ‰ in the ESI global ranking. In the fourth round of national discipline evaluation in 2017, three disciplines including water conservancy engineering, control science and engineering, and management science and engineering entered the top 20% of the country, and three disciplines including material science and engineering, mechanical engineering, and Marxist theory entered the top 30% of the country; Five disciplines, including instrument science and technology, electronic science and technology, civil engineering, environmental science and engineering, and business administration, entered the top 40% of the country. In the “2021 Academic Ranking of Soft Science World Universities”, the university ranks 601-700 in the world and 89-106 in China.

The University actively promotes the strategy of “strengthening the school with talents”, takes talent work as the top priority of the school’s development, and constantly strengthens the construction of the teacher team. The university has established the “Sheikh Temanor Prize New Materials Research Institute” and 13 academician studios. There are 4 double employed academicians and 1 foreign academician. Eighteen national level talents were selected, and one Huangdanian style teacher team in universities nationwide. In 2013, as a national pilot university, it took the lead in passing the audit and evaluation of undergraduate teaching by the Ministry of Education. The university is a pilot unit for comprehensive reform of professional degree postgraduate education and postgraduate curriculum construction of the Ministry of Education. It has established two national demonstration bases for joint cultivation and practice of professional degree postgraduate and eight demonstration workstations for joint cultivation of postgraduate in Shaanxi Province.

The University adheres to open education, actively carries out all-round international exchanges and cooperation, and its international influence is growing. The university has successively established friendly cooperation and exchange relations with more than 60 universities and scientific research institutions in more than 20 countries and regions, including Germany, Japan, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, France, etc., which has promoted the cooperation and exchange between teachers and students of the university and internationally renowned universities and scientific research institutions. With the approval of the Ministry of Education, the university has established a Sino foreign cooperative school running institution with multiple levels of undergraduate, master and doctor training – Xi’an University of Technology International Engineering College. The cultivation of international students has developed in an orderly manner. At present, more than 100 students from more than 20 countries have come to the school to receive high-level academic education, and the international atmosphere on the campus has been effectively improved.
