About Zhejiang University City College

Zhejiang University City College(hereafter referred to as ZUCC) is a full-time public undergraduate institution approved by China’s Ministry of Education and organized by Hangzhou Municipal People’s Government.

ZUCC is located in Hangzhou, China, with a beautiful natural environment and advanced school facilities. The campus covers an area of more than 66.7 hectares, with a school building area of more than 510,000 square meters. There are 9 colleges and 1 Sino-foreign cooperative educational institution(the University of Waikato Joint Institute at Zhejiang University City College); the 37 undergraduate majors taught cover eight fields of disciplines, namely, liberal arts, economics, management, law, engineering, science, medicine and art. There are more than 11,100 full-time undergraduates, more than 210 postgraduates jointly educated by ZUCC and Zhejiang University, and more than 1000 faculty members. Among the full-time faculty, nearly 50% have senior technical positions, and there are winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, national-level candidates for the “Hundred-Thousand-Ten Thousand Talents Project”, young and middle-aged experts with outstanding contributions to the nation, scholars of the “Young Thousand Talents Plan”, outstanding talents in the new century rated by the Ministry of Education, experts approved by the State Council to enjoy special government allowances, national model teachers, and famous teachers in Zhejiang Province and a batch of national and provincial outstanding teachers.

Based on the needs of regional economic and social development, ZUCC follows Zhejiang University to gather high-quality educational resources, upholds the spirit of innovation, adheres to the educational concept of “emphasizing the personality development based on overall quality improvement”, and strives to cultivate high-quality applied, compound and innovative talents with a sense of social responsibility, strong social, political and economic construction capabilities, and an international perspective and the ability to participate in international competition. ZUCC is the first batch of application-oriented construction pilot demonstration schools in Zhejiang Province, and the provincial newly-added master’s degree awarding project construction unit. ZUCC adheres to the principle of “differentiated competition and distinctive development” to coordinate the development of professional disciplines and form a good development pattern of professional disciplines. There is 1 national first-class undergraduate major, 7 Zhejiang provincial first-class disciplines and key disciplines, 15 provincial first-class majors, key majors and specialty majors, 1 provincial engineering laboratory, 1 provincial key laboratory cultivation and construction project, 3 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers, etc.; in recent years, there were 7 courses winning the title of national and provincial quality online open course and quality course, and ZUCC was selected as university with classroom innovation in the province; the teaching reform practice won 2 national teaching achievement awards and 3 provincial first prizes. ZUCC makes sustained efforts to promote the reform of the applied talent training model and strengthen the integration of production and education. So far, it has trained more than 46,000 graduates with strong innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities for the society, and a number of outstanding talents and successful entrepreneurs have emerged. ZUCC is based in Zhejiang and serves the whole country. It vigorously implements industry-university-research cooperation and continuously promotes scientific and technological innovation and social services. The research achievements have won 36 provincial and ministerial-level awards for scientific research achievement. The total amount of scientific research funds in the past five years has exceeded 360 million Yuan. ZUCC was selected as one in the first batch of council members of the China University-Region Cooperation Alliance. The CC Dream Factory in the ZUCC Science and Technology Park was identified as a provincial-level creative space.

ZUCC insists on open schooling, regards promoting international education as an important strategy for the development of the university, organizes Sino-foreign cooperatively-run schools, joint programs and course cooperation projects, actively promotes students to exchange and study abroad, forming the distinctive international education characteristics. It has established exchange and cooperation relations with nearly 70 overseas universities in the United States, Japan, France, Germany, New Zealand and other countries. More than 70% of the majors have Sino-foreign course cooperation projects. The non-independent legal person Sino-foreign cooperatively-run institution organized by ZUCC with The University of Waikato in New Zealand is the first institution of Sino-New Zealand undergraduate education cooperation and the first Sino-foreign cooperatively-run institution in Hangzhou. In order to facilitate the construction of “Healthy China”, the International Health Science Center was established with the Loma Linda University in the United States, which is dedicated to cultivating internationally needed talents in the fields of oral hygiene and respiratory therapy. High-quality international education resources and a strong international campus atmosphere have created good conditions for students to grow into talents. The average overseas study rate of ZUCC undergraduate graduates in the past three years has exceeded 9%, of which the average admission rate of top 100 QS universities has reached 60% or so.
