Breaking Willow Twigs at Parting
What can I do but pour wine for your broken heart?
Don’t aggravate your eyebrows and waist slender!
Before our death there’s nothing sadder than to part,
Why should the vernal breeze save willow branches tender?
Note:The breaking of a twig from the willow tree was a symbol to show the grief at parting. So the poet urges his lover to break more so as to lessen her grief as if a greater grief might diminish a lesser one.
