Autumn presents a boundless view,
Far off dark masses loom in heap.
The sky blends into water blue,
The lonely town veiled in mist deep.
The wind strips trees of leaves again,
The sun beyond the mountains sinks.
So late comes back the snowy crane,
The wood’s thronged with crows as dusk winks.
“Dim Prospect” is a seven-line poem written by Du Fu, a poet of the Tang Dynasty. The first couplet of the poem describes the scenery of the western mountains and the Jinjiang River seen during the wild lookout; the third couplet is related to the separation of brothers and the lonely wanderers; the neck couplet expresses the feeling of being too sick to serve the country; the last couplet describes the way of the wild lookout and the deep concern for the family and the country. The poem is based on the theme of scenery, worrying about the time and the country, with simple language and deep feelings.
