About Guizhou Vocational and Technical College of Water Resources and Hydropower

Guizhou Vocational and Technical College of Water Resources and Hydropower is a full-time public ordinary vocational college approved by the People’s Government of Guizhou Province and officially registered by the Ministry of Education. Its predecessor is Guizhou Water Conservancy and Electric Power School, which was founded in 1956 and is subordinate to the Department of Water Resources of Guizhou Province. After more than 60 years of construction and development, the college has become a higher vocational college with distinctive characteristics of water conservancy and hydropower, with higher vocational education as the main, secondary vocational education as the auxiliary, coordinated development of adult continuing education. The college now has more than 14000 students and 520 teaching staff. The new campus is located in Guizhou (Qingzhen) Vocational Education City, covering an area of 600 mu, with a planned building area of 314000 square meters. It is a modern smart school featuring water conservation, energy conservation and ecological protection with rich water culture.

Since its establishment, the College has cultivated tens of thousands of technical and skilled talents in the field of water conservancy and electric power for the local and water conservancy and electric power industries, made positive contributions to the water conservancy and hydropower industry in Guizhou, and was awarded the “cradle of water conservancy talents in Guizhou” by the Department of Water Resources of Guizhou Province, The college has won nearly 100 awards and honorary titles at all levels, including “National Advanced Collective of School Moral Education”, “National Advanced Collective of Water Conservancy System”, “National Water Conservancy Civilized Unit”, “Provincial Civilized Campus”, and “China ASEAN Double Hundred Vocational Schools Strong Cooperation Flagship Program”. In 2021, it will be selected as one of the first batch of “Double High Plan” construction units in Guizhou Province.

At present, the College has five major groups, including water conservancy engineering, electric power engineering, civil engineering, management engineering and intelligent engineering, with a total of 25 majors. The college vigorously promotes the talent training mode of combination of work and learning, integration of production and education, and school enterprise cooperation. It has long carried out in-depth school enterprise cooperation with enterprises inside and outside the province, such as Guizhou Water Resources Investment Group, Guizhou Construction Engineering Group, Zhongtiancheng Investment Property Management Company, Imperial Garden Hotel, Shenzhen Wanjiadenghuo Digital Energy Technology Co., Ltd. There are more than 20 large and medium-sized training bases and more than 100 training rooms in the school, represented by “Dayu Hall”, a comprehensive hydraulic engineering training center, and “Luban Hall”, a construction engineering training center, which can meet the training and teaching needs of various majors, fully demonstrating the teaching characteristics of “doing, learning and teaching” integration. The college has built “Xiangguoxing Master Studio”, “Deng Azi Water Conservancy Cost Master Studio”, “Yang Zhengce Provincial Famous Teacher Studio” and “Yang Zhaoxiang Provincial Famous Teacher Studio”, insisting on cultivating craftsmanship through culture and inheriting craftsmanship spirit. The college attaches great importance to the training of students’ practical skills. It organizes students to participate in the provincial national skills competition every year, and has achieved good results. The overall quality of talent training continues to improve. The annual employment rate of graduates ranks among the top universities in the province.

In recent years, the College has actively responded to the national “the Belt and Road” initiative, vigorously promoted international exchange and cooperation, successively recruited hundreds of international students from seven countries, including Bangladesh, Thailand, Cambodia, etc. to study in school, and has established inter school cooperation relations with many universities, such as the United States, Cambodia, Costa Rica, Thailand, Malaysia, Taiwan, China, China, etc. Every year, excellent students are organized to exchange and study in overseas universities. As the first “going global” vocational college in Guizhou Province, it has successively opened “Guizhou Water Conservancy and Hydropower Vocational and Technical College · Cambodia Battambang Institute of Technology · Yalong Silk Road College” and “Guizhou Water Conservancy and Hydropower Vocational and Technical College Costa Rica Silk Road College”, and the big data technology professional college education project jointly held with the University of Bev in the United States has also been officially recorded by the Ministry of Education in April 2022.

The College, together with Hehai University, North China University of Water Resources and Hydropower, and Nanchang University of Engineering, has jointly run adult college and undergraduate education. It is also the national training and examination base for electrical network access work permit, the 11th national vocational skill appraisal station in Guizhou Province, and the vocational skill appraisal station for specific types of work in the water conservancy industry.
