About Jiangsu Ocean University

Jiangsu Ocean University is a full-time undergraduate university in Jiangsu Province. Huaihai University, formerly Known as Huaihai University, was founded in 1985. In 1989, it was approved as Huaihai Institute of Technology by the Ministry of Education. From 1998 to 2002, the former Jiangsu Salt Industry School, Lianyungang Fishery School and Lianyungang Chemical Engineering College, all with a history of more than 40 years, were merged into Huaihai Institute of Technology. In June 2019, the Ministry of Education approved the school to change its name to Jiangsu Ocean University. The history of Marine higher education can be traced back to xinhailian Fisheries College (later renamed Lianyungang Fisheries College), which was founded in 1958. In August 2013, the Academic Degrees Committee of The State Council approved the university to grant master’s degrees. In July 2017, THE university became the project construction unit for doctoral degree awarding.

The university is located in Lianyungang city, the core and pilot area of the “Belt and Road” initiative, the eastern bridgehead of the Eurasian Continental Bridge, and the first batch of open coastal cities in China. Existing cangwu campus, Tong Guan campus, Song Hop campus and market lane campus four campuses, the main campus (Cangwu campus) is located in the 5A national scenic spot, “Journey to the West” culture birthplace of Huagao Mountain west foot, a total area of 2184.87 mu, school area 645,300 square meters. There are more than 1600 faculty members, including more than 20000 full-time undergraduates and 1200 graduate students. The university has 20 schools offering 69 undergraduate majors covering ten disciplines including engineering, science, management, literature, agriculture, law, economics, art, education and medicine.

More than 100 teachers are employed as adjunct professors, doctoral supervisors and master supervisors by domestic and foreign universities. Guided by curriculum ideology and politics, and in accordance with the general requirements of “broadening the basis, attaching importance to application and strengthening quality”, the school has continuously expanded the total number of courses, optimized the curriculum structure, reformed the teaching mode, and actively created first-class courses. It has built a first-class talent training curriculum system with a clear mapping relationship to students’ values, comprehensive quality and ability structure, including 2 national first-class undergraduate courses and 16 provincial high-quality online open courses. Marine Science is the dominant discipline in Jiangsu Province, and mechanical engineering is the key (cultivated) discipline in Jiangsu Province. In May 2021, the University Science park of Jiangsu Ocean University was recognized as a National University Science park by the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education. In recent years, it has won 53 provincial and ministerial scientific research awards, including 2 national science and technology awards.
