About Kunming City College

Kunming City College (formerly Business college of Yunnan Normal University) was established in June 2000 with the approval of the Ministry of Education, and is one of the first independent colleges in Yunnan Province, belonging to the general higher education undergraduate level.

Since its establishment, the College has comprehensively implemented the Party’s education policy, adhered to the fundamental task of establishing moral education, with the vision of “running the best applied university and the most caring university”, and devoted itself to cultivating applied talents with solid professional foundation, strong practical ability, high comprehensive quality, family sentiment and understanding of international rules for regional economic and social development. After 20 years of development, the College has continued to improve its collegeing conditions, and its collegeing characteristics are beginning to emerge, with the level of collegeing and social reputation constantly improving.

The college is run on two campuses, with more than 19,000 students enrolled; there are more than 1,000 full-time teachers, of whom more than 70% are teachers with master’s degrees or above, and more than 30% are teachers with associate titles or above. There are 7 teaching units, 8 disciplines and 54 undergraduate majors, including Music Education and Artificial Intelligence, which will be newly established in 2022; the distribution of majors is 13 in Management, 4 in Economics, 14 in Art, 4 in Education, 10 in Literature, 7 in Engineering, 1 in Science and 1 in Law. The College has initially formed a system of disciplines and majors with education and art as the main subjects and coordinated development of multiple disciplines.

In 2012, the college passed the evaluation of bachelor’s degree granting units and bachelor’s degree authorizing majors in Yunnan Province, and passed the “2012 Yunnan Province Higher college Teaching Level Evaluation” by the Yunnan Provincial Department of Education; in 2014, the college became one of the first “pilot institutions for transforming and developing into an applied technology university” in Yunnan Province. “In 2015, the university passed the “Assessment on Teaching Conditions, Levels and Disciplines of Private Undergraduate Colleges (including Independent Colleges)” by Yunnan Provincial Department of Education, with the conclusion of A. The College has been ranked as one of the top ten independent colleges in China by the Alumni Association for many years, and ranked second for five consecutive years from 2017 to 2021; the College was ranked second in Class III by the Alumni Association for China’s private universities in 2022.
