appreciation

This poem is roughly written in the period when Li Bai lived in Anlu, Hubei (727-736). At that time, he often went to and fro in the Xianghan area and forged a deep friendship with Meng Haoran, who was 12 years older than him. The style of the poem is natural and elegant, which depicts Meng Haoran’s romantic and elegant image, and also expresses the resonance between Li Bai and his thoughts and feelings.
Li Bai’s regular poems disdain to be constrained by the meter, but pursue the natural flow of the ancient style, express his mind directly, and show a sense of elegance. The former said, “It is too white in the law, which is still a legacy of ancient poetry. It is deep in feeling and obvious in words, which is out of nature. It is close to the purpose of the poem. It is especially coquettish.” (Li Shiwei) The poem “To Meng Haoran” has such characteristics.
“I love Master Meng, and I am romantic.” The first couplet says that I respect Mr. Meng, who is famous for his noble, elegant and elegant manner. The first couplet is the point, which is straight to the point, expressing the admiration for Meng Haoran. A word of “love” is the lyric main line running through the whole poem. “Romance” refers to Confucius’ natural and unrestrained demeanor and personality and detached literary talent. This couplet is the outline of the poem. How to be romantic depends on the strokes of the two couplets in the middle.
“The beauty abandons the Xuan crown, and the white head lies on the pine cloud.” The supporting couplet says that when I was young, I despised official titles and did not love official carriages and horses. When I was old, my white head retired to the mountains and forests to abandon the dust.
“The drunken moon is the most popular, and the misty flower is not the king.” The collar couplet means that the moon night is often very elegant because of drunkenness, and he is open-minded because he is not interested in flowers and plants. Use allusions in poetry to melt nature. “Zhongsheng” refers to the story of Xu Miao in Cao Wei Dynasty. He likes drinking wine. He calls sake a saint, and foul wine a sage. “Zhongsheng” means to be drunk, and forms a clever antithesis with “king”.
The middle couplet is like a picture of an expert recluse, which depicts the image of a poet lying high in the forest and spring, enjoying himself. “Hongyan” and “Baishou” generalize their careers from youth to old age. On one side are the chariot and horse hats of dignitaries, and on the other side are the pine wind and white clouds of the hermits. Haoran would rather abandon his official career and go into seclusion. Through the contrast of abandoning one and taking another, his noble demeanor and integrity are highlighted. If the supporting couplet is about his life in general, the necktie is about his reclusive life in horizontal. In the clear night when the bright moon is in the sky, he often becomes intoxicated when drinking. Sometimes they linger in the flowers and forget to return. The supporting couplet is written in a way that is positive instead of positive, that is, from discard to take; The neck couplet is positive and negative. It is written from seclusion to not being a king: it is vertical and horizontal, positive and negative, and its strokes are flexible. This couplet contains love in the image description.
“The mountain is safe to look up to? Just like this!” The tail couplet says, how can a mountain like character look up to him? Only worship his fragrant moral glory here! The tail couplets return to direct lyricism, and the feelings are further sublimated. Meng Haoran does not admire honor and profit, and his self satisfied and indifferent character has been written so fully. On this basis, it is very natural to deepen his lyricism and push it to a climax. The image of looking up at the mountain makes the admiration concrete, but the mountain is too lofty, so we can only bow to his pure and fragrant character. This kind of writing is a higher sense of worship than the ordinary writing of looking up, and the poem ends in this kind of praise.
This poem is characterized by natural simplicity in language. The first couplet looks ordinary. It expresses the poet’s admiration with a kind of extended exclamation. It has a high and elegant style, and the tail couplet has the same style. The supporting couplet is written from “Hongyan” to “white head, flowing like flowing water.” The use of “inter body” in it is thought-provoking: “Abandoning Xuanmian” and “Crouching Songyun” are two aspects of one thing. In this way, the beauty of swaying and scattering is added in the natural flow.
The structure of the whole poem adopts the lyric description lyric way. At the beginning, I put forward the meaning of “my love”, which naturally transited to description, revealing the “loveliness”, and finally came down to “respect”. It is composed by the natural flow of feelings, so it is as smooth as flowing clouds and rivers, showing the poet’s frank and natural feelings.
