此诗大致写在李白寓居湖北安陆时期（公元727年～公元736年），此时他常往来于襄汉一带，与比他长十二岁的孟浩然结下了深厚友谊。郁贤皓认为，此诗当为公元739年（开元二十七年）李白过襄阳重晤孟浩然时所作，其时孟浩然已届暮年。
Creation background
This poem was roughly written in the period when Li Bai lived in Anlu, Hubei Province (727~736 AD). At that time, he often went to and fro in the Xianghan area and forged a deep friendship with Meng Haoran, who was 12 years older than him. Yu Xianhao believes that this poem was written when Li Bai met Meng Haoran again in Xiangyang in 739 AD (the 27th year of the Kaiyuan era), when Meng Haoran was in his twilight years.
