Wuzhizhou Island 蜈支洲岛 or “Guqizhou 古崎洲” in ancient times, is located in Haitang Bay 海棠湾, Haitang District, Sanya City, Hainan Province, about 30 kilometers away from the urban area. Its southwest side is adjacent to Yalong Bay 亚龙湾, and its northeast side is adjacent to Nanwan Monkey Island 南猴湾岛.
Wuzhizhou Island was built in 1893 AD, with a history of more than 100 years. After liberation, the island was requisitioned by the People’s Liberation Army as a key area for strategic defense.
Under the conditions of conventional weapons warfare, its strategic position is very important, and it is the front line of defense. The Korean War in the 1950s, the military confrontation with the Taiwanese Kuomintang government in the 1960s, and the Vietnam War 越南战争 in the early 1970s all made the place full of warm atmosphere.
