About Xi’an Polytechnic University

Xi’an Polytechnic University (XPU), is a comprehensive university with distinctive feature and strong foundation in running schools. It is the only university specializing in Textile and Apparel in West China. The history of XPU can be traced back to the Weaving Department of Beijing Higher Industrial School in 1912. Over the years, XPU has developed into a comprehensive teaching and research university not only specializing in textile, apparel and art design, but also covering a wide range of branches of disciplines such as engineering, science,liberal arts, management, economics, law, education and art. XPU now offers education at different levels including 61 undergraduate programs, 16 first-level-discipline MPHIL programs, 12 catalogs of professional master degree programs and 1 joint PHD program.

In 1912, XPU started as Beijing Higher Industry Institute Weaving Academy. With a 66-years of development, Northwest Textile Science and Technology University was founded in 1978 under the direct leadership of the Ministry of Textile. It transferred to the supervision of Shaanxi Provincial Government in 1998. In 2006, it took on its current name Xi’an Polytechnic University(XPU).At present, with an area of about 280 acres, XPU has two campuses, namely the Jinhua Campus near thecity center and Lintong campus near the world famous Terracotta Warriors and Horses Museum,each with modern facilities and beautiful environment. The university currently consists of 14schools and 1 teaching department with an enrollment of over 20,000 students.

The university boasts a high-level staff of over 1000, each with both academic distinction in their respective fields and significant working experience, among whom Professor Yao Mu, an academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, has been devoted to the teaching and researching on textile materials for more than 60 years. The university attaches great importance to developing students’ ability to solve real-world problems, and it provides students with opportunities to conduct real-life projects. On campus, the university is well-equipped with the latest lab facilities. The applied research centers and comprehensive talents training bases are multidisciplinary and have connections and cooperation with many institutes and enterprises both at home and abroad.

Over the years, XPU has established fundamental friendship and long-standing cooperation with over 60 universities and organizations abroad. More than 500 students have been studying abroad through joint degree programs between XPU and partner universities and over 500 students have gained international experience through participating in various exchange programs and summer programs to partner universities abroad.With ‘One belt, One road’initiative, we have made it a strategic priority to go global.

As one of the institutions approved by the Ministry of Education to enroll foreign students and grant master and bachelor degree, XPU began to enroll foreign students from1992. So far, more than 200 short-term and long-term foreign students from the United States, Germany, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Kazakhstan, Cameroon and other countries have studied here. At the same time, the school receives students from the United States, Australia, New Zealand and other countries to study Chinese and Chinese culture.International students from the“The Belt&Road”countries who are pursuing their academic study at XPU can apply for Xi’an“The Belt & Road”International Students Scholarship.

In recent years, XPU has conducted a comprehensive exploration and reform of the education of foreign students in terms of teaching concepts, training models and management methods, to form a unique teaching model and building a scientific teaching quality evaluation system. XPU offers international student apartment in Jinhua campus.
