Li Shangyin’s Poetry – –

Li Shangyin courtesy name Yishan (Chinese: 義山), was a Chinese poet and politician of the late Tang dynasty

Untitled

(II)

The grief laden curtains hang deep in her Griefless Hall,

Awake from sleeps, she finds the sleepless night grow long.

A happy life in love is a dream beyond call;

A lonely virgin deprived of amorous song.

Against the wind and waves can’t stand her cresses frail.

Will the moon shed dew to make her laurel leaves sweet?

Although she knows her lovesickness of no avail,

How can a passionate poor heart no longer beat?

Note:This poem describes the sleepless night of a solitary woman in her Griefless Hall.
