Listen to this article《道德经》，春秋时期老子（李耳）的哲学作品，又称《道德真经》、《老子》、《五千言》、《老子五千文》，是中国古代先秦诸子分家前的一部著作，是道家哲学思想的重要来源。道德经分上下两篇，原文上篇《德经》、下篇《道经》，不分章，后改为《道经》37章在前，第38章之后为《德经》，并分为81章。《道德经》文本以哲学意义之“道德”为纲宗，论述修身、治国、用兵、养生之道，而多以政治为旨归，乃所谓“内圣外王”之学，文意深奥，包涵广博，被誉为万经之王。《道德经》是中国历史上最伟大的名著之一，对传统哲学、科学、政治、宗教等产生了深刻影响。据联合国教科文组织统计，《道德经》是除了《圣经》以外被译成外国文字发布量最多的文化名著。
译文：天下万物皆有原始，始是天下万物之母。既已得知其母，就可以此知其子；即如其子，又回复守其母，终身就不会有危险。堵塞嗜欲的孔窍，关闭欲望的心门，终身没有劳烦之事。开启嗜欲的孔窍，增添纷杂的事务，终身不可救治。从细微处察觉事物之理叫做明，能守持柔弱叫做强。运用外在智慧之光，复归内在规律，不给自己留下祸患，这叫做因袭自然之常道。

天下有始，
以为天下母。
既知其母，
复知其子，
既知其子，
复守其母，
没其不殆。
塞其兑，
闭其门，
终身不勤。
开其兑，
济其事，
终身不救。
见小曰明，
守柔曰强。
用其光，
复归其明，
无遗身殃，
是为习常。
Chapter 52
The world has a beginning that is the mother of the world.
Once you have found the mother, thereby you know the child.
Once you know the child, you return to keep the mother, not perishing though the body may die.
Close your eyes, shut your doors, and you do not toil all your life.
Open your eyes, carry out your affair, and you’re not saved all your life.
Seeing the small is called clarity; keeping flexible is called strength.
Using the shining radiance, you return again to the light, not leaving anything to harm yourself.
This is called entering the eternal.
