村夜

霜草苍苍[1]虫切切,

村南村北行人绝。

独出前门望野田,

月明荞麦花如雪。

这首诗用白描的手法写出了一个乡村之夜。“霜草苍苍”点出了秋色的浓重,虫声切切渲染了秋夜的凄清。村南村北,行人绝迹,写的是景,但是景色的萧瑟凄凉,又透露出诗人孤独寂寞的心情。后两句从门内转到野外,一望明月如水,荞麦如雪,这光明的景象和诗人忧郁的心情形成了鲜明的对比,使诗人的心灵受到大自然的洗礼,感情也变得洁如霜雪了。这种寓情于景的写法使诗读起来更富有韵味。

The chilly crickets chirp among the grass frost-white;

North and south of the village there’s no man in sight.

I come outdoors alone and gaze on the fields, lo!

The buckwheat steeped in moonlight looks as white as snow.
