Brief Introduction
Guilin Lijiang River Scenic Area is honored as National 5A Scenic Attraction and National Park of China with a beautiful and large-scale karst landscape scenic area in Guangxi, China.
Lijiang River, also known as Gui Shui桂水, Guijiang桂江, Guishui癸水, Dongjiang东江, flows through Guilin City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, with the river basin breeding an original and peerless natural Guilin landscape. The 83-kilometer stretch from Guilin to Yangshuo is the cream of the Lijiang River. This section of the waterway is noted for its green hills, crystal clear water, mysterious caves, and grotesque rocks in the Guilin Lijiang River Scenic Area.
The features of the Lijiang River are summed up as limpidity, peculiarity, ingenuity, variation, the main scenic spots are summed up as one river, two holes, three mountains. One river (Li River), two caves (Ludi Rock芦笛岩, Qixing Rock七星岩) and three mountains (Duxiu Peak独秀峰, Fubo Mountain伏波山, Diecai Mountain叠彩山) are the essence of Guilin Lijiang River Scenic Area.
Originating in Mao’er Mountain猫儿山, the Lijiang River flows 427 kilometers to the Xijiang River西江 at Wuzhou梧州 along which the green ribbon of water winds between the mountains and cliffs, with their images reflected in the water. It has been praised as a fascinating scroll of traditional Chinese painting by poets.
Lijiang River scenery is known to all not only for its green hills, crystal clear water, mysterious caves, and grotesque rocks but also for its wonderful deep pools, springs, and waterfalls in the Guilin Lijiang River Scenic Area. Moreover, unlike most scenic spots that show their best on sunny days, the Lijiang River also has its charm when it is veiled by rain and mist.
On fine days, reflections of the hills in clear water are especially pleasing to the eyes, but the hazy view of the drizzling rain and lingering clouds give birth to a wonderful fairyland for tourists under rainy and misty weather in the Guilin Lijiang River Scenic Area.

Main attractions
There are many scenic spots in the Guilin Lijiang River scenic area. In a short period, we can only choose the main scenic spots for sightseeing, among which the one river (Lijiang River), the two caves (Ludi Rock, Qixing Rock), and the three hills (Duxiu Peak, Fubo Mountain, Diecai Mountain) are representative. They are basically the essence of the Guilin landscape.
From the point of view of aesthetics, the characteristics of the Lijiang River can be summarized as limpidity, peculiarity, ingenuity, variation. Limpidity refers to the water of the Lijiang River, crystal clear throughout the year. Peculiarity refers to the mountains of the Li River, which are strange and beautiful. Ingenuity refers to the scenery of the Lijiang River and variation refers to the change of Lijiang River scenery.
The Elephant Trunk Hill象鼻山 landscape map is in the confluence of Taohua River桃花江 and Lijiang River, 200 meters away from Wengchang Bridge文昌桥 to the west, 200 meters above sea level, 55 meters above the river, 108 meters long, 100 meters wide, and with a mountain area of 1.3 hectares. Elephant Trunk Hill is so named because it looks like a giant elephant drinking water with its trunk on the bank of the Lijiang River. It is also the symbol of Guilin City.
Wangfu Mountain望夫山 is located on the west bank of the Lijiang River, in front of Doumi Beach斗米滩, about 37 kilometers away from Guilin. There is an immortal stone at the top of the mountain, like wearing ancient clothes to look to the north. There is also a stone on the mountainside, like a woman with a baby staring at her husband in the distance, so it is the so-called Wangfu mountain, also known as Wangfu stone望夫石.
Huangniu Xia黄牛峡 is on the west bank of the Lijiang River, south of Mopan Mountain磨盘山, about 30 kilometers away from Guilin. There are many strange stones, like Lotus, lions and tigers, bats, cattle groups, hence the name. Xu Xiake, a famous traveler of the Ming Dynasty, roamed the Lijiang River in Chongzhen崇祯. He thought Huangniu Xia could be compared with Wu Gorge巫峡 of the Yangtze River.
Guan Yan冠岩 is a giant underground river cave, a total length of 12 km, originated from the ocean mountain to the east of the Guilin. The overall planning of the scenic spot is designed and constructed with a high starting point and high standard. The cave is equipped with an automatic light-controlled and voice-controlled tour guide system. Trams, yachts, and sightseeing elevators complement each other with the fantastic natural landscape in the cave, providing a unique water, land, and air tour.
In the south of the Painting Mountain画山, there is a yellow rock, like a piece of yellow cloth on the bottom of the river, here the name of the Reflection of Yellow Beach黄布倒影. Here the river is clear and quiet while the reflection of the cloud mountain and the river bottom is like a picture of a poem.
Xingping town兴坪, on the east bank of the Lijiang River, was the largest town along the ancient Lijiang River, with a history of 1,300 years. The Lijiang River flows through Xingping, forming an “S” shaped bend, which is the place where the scenery of Guilin Lijiang River Scenic Area gathers.
Nine Horse Painting Hill 九马画山 is one of the famous scenery of Guilin Lijiang River Scenic Area and it is the wonders of natural creation. Located in the northwest of Xingpin Town away from 4 kilometers, 400 meters high, 200 meters wide, like a group of horses in the picture screen, or standing or lying, or flying, looking back, or leisurely foraging…….
Hundred miles of the Lijiang River, hundred miles of gallery. Lijiang River, a pearl of China’s splendid rivers and mountains, is the essence of the Guilin Lijiang River Scenic Area, is an important part of the Guilin landscape. Tang Dynasty poet Han Yu praised the beautiful scenery of Lijiang River by saying, “The gurgling water likes a green silk ribbon snakes its way between the thousands of peaks and hills.”
