Dream of a Fair Maiden
Liu Chenweng

On Lantern Day
Wind and snow rage along the way.
Wind and snow rage,
The land looks as of yore,
But pilgrimage no more.

We have seen rise and fall in a hundred short years,
But you and I still see the same moon appears.
The same moon appears
To brighten our sad tears
And whiten the hair of our peers.

注释:

“Dream of a Fair Maiden” is a lyric composed by Liu Chen-weng, a lyricist in the late Song Dynasty. The first piece touches on the scene, contrasting the present and the past to trigger his hatred for the fall of his country; the second piece expresses his feelings about the change of time and the vicissitudes of the world. The whole lyric is sorrowful, with pathos in tone, expressing a deep sense of rise and fall, showing a scholar’s loyalty to his homeland and the pain of his fallen country that cannot be dispelled in his heart.
