天不仁兮降乱离[2]，
地不仁兮使我逢此时。
干戈日寻[3]兮道路危，
民卒流亡兮共哀悲。
烟尘蔽野兮胡虏盛，
志意乖[4]兮节义亏。
对殊俗[5]兮非我宜，
遭恶辱兮当告谁？
笳一会[6]兮琴一拍，
心愤怨兮无人知。
注释：
[1]祚（zuò）：福气，此处指国运。
[2]乱离：灾祸。
[3]干戈日寻：战争连绵不休；干戈：兵器的通称，此处指战争。
[4]乖：违背，不顺。
[5]殊俗：风俗、习俗不同；殊：不同。
[6]会：音节，节拍。

When I was born,there was nothing wrong;
After my birth Han’s power was in decay,
As Heaven would have it,oh,disorder lasted long;
By misfortune,oh,I lived in such a dark day.
When war broke out,oh,there was no safe way.
Where could homeless people,oh,find a place to stay?
The central plain inflame,oh,the Tartars were strong.
What could I do,oh,but submit to the foe?
But I was not accustomed,oh,to live there among.
To whom could I tell,oh,my humiliation and woe?
I can but play my lute,oh,and sing my song.
My heart dies within,oh,but who would know?
