此诗作于柳宗元谪居永州期间（公元805年—815年）。唐顺宗永贞元年（805），柳宗元参加了王叔文集团发动的永贞革新运动，改革很快失败，柳宗元被贬为永州司马，流放十年。险恶的环境压迫，并没有把他压垮。他把人生的价值和理想志趣，通过诗歌来加以展现。
Creation background
This poem was written during Liu Zongyuan’s exile in Yongzhou (805-815 AD). In the first year of Yongzhen (805) of Emperor Shunzong of the Tang Dynasty, Liu Zongyuan participated in the Yongzhen innovation movement launched by Wang Shuwen Group. The reform failed quickly. Liu Zongyuan was demoted to Sima in Yongzhou and exiled for ten years. The oppression of dangerous environment did not crush him. He expressed the value of life and his ideals and interests through poetry.
