煮豆燃豆萁[1],

豆在釜[2]中泣。

本是同根生,

相煎何太急。

Written While Taking Seven Paces[1]

Cao Zhi

Pods burned to cook peas;

Peas weep in the pot:

“Grown from the same trees,

Why boil us so hot?”

注释:

[1] The poet won the favor of his father for his literary talent and lost that of his eldest broth er, who later became the first emperor of Wei and ordered him, under pain of death, to compose this poem within the time of taking seven paces.
