About Xi`an University Of Science And Technology

Xi’an University of Science and Technology has a long history and profound heritage. The history of the university can be traced back to the establishment of the Department of Mining and Metallurgy in the Engineering College of Beiyang University in 1895, which was moved to the Department of Mining and Metallurgy of Northwest Engineering College in 1938, then merged into Xi’an Jiaotong University in 1957 and established as an independent Xi’an Institute of Mining and Technology in 1958, which was one of the only two 5-year undergraduate institutions under the former Ministry of Coal Industry at that time. “It was renamed as Xi’an Institute of Science and Technology in 1999 and Xi’an University of Science and Technology in 2003.

The university is a university jointly built by the Ministry of Emergency Management and Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government, a university implementing the Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program of the Ministry of Education, a university implementing the National Program for the Construction of High-ranking Universities, a university implementing the National Key Discipline Program, a university implementing the National Basic Capacity Building Project for Universities in Central and Western China, a university building high-level universities in Shaanxi Province, and a university building “first-class universities and first-class disciplines” in Shaanxi Province. In 2004, the university received excellent grade in the evaluation of undergraduate teaching work of the Ministry of Education, and in 2017, the safety science and engineering discipline entered A class in the fourth round of national discipline level evaluation, becoming the only A class engineering discipline among universities in Shaanxi province; in August 2018, the university was selected as one of Shaanxi province In August 2018, the university was selected as one of the “domestic first-class university construction universities”, and the discipline of safety science and engineering was selected as one of the “domestic first-class university construction universities” construction disciplines. The university covers an area of 920,000 square meters, with two campuses in Yanta and Lintong, a graduate school and 20 colleges (departments). The university has a national key discipline of safety technology and engineering, 8 provincial advantageous characteristic (key) disciplines, covering 47 secondary disciplines. It has 30 research platforms at provincial and ministerial levels, including the National Key Laboratory of Coal Fractionation and Clean Transformation, the National Key Laboratory of Mining Engineering in Coal Industry (provincial and ministerial level), and the Engineering Research Center of the Ministry of Education for Western Coal Mine Safety, and one innovation team of the Ministry of Education. The university has 6 post-doctoral research stations, 7 first-level discipline doctoral programs, 26 first-level discipline master’s programs, 6 engineering master’s degree programs and professional degree programs in business administration, accounting, applied statistics, translation, engineering management and Chinese international education, and 60 undergraduate majors, forming a university with the characteristics of geology and mining, safety and related disciplines, engineering as the main body, engineering, science, arts, management, law, economics and science. The university has conducted 42 exchange programs with universities in Canada, Russia and Malaysia, and 42 short-term exchange programs to Cambridge University. The University has enrolled 340 international students from 32 countries for undergraduate and doctoral degrees and short-term study.

Over the past 60 years, under the leadership of the Ministry of Education, the former Ministry of Coal Industry, the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee and the Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government, generations of XUST have worked hard and established themselves, closely integrating talent training, scientific research, social service, cultural heritage and innovation, and international exchange and cooperation, making important contributions to the coal industry and regional economic and social development.
