Du Fu: Crossing the River ~ 杜甫·《渡江》 with English Translations

Listen to this article

Crossing the River

Du Fu

The river in Spring resists attempt to cross,

By February there are stormy waves.

The oars are wrenched askew, while fish and eel

Float up from where they lie in dragon caves.

The island flowers spread on white brocade,

The blues of grass and robe are intermixed.

I tease the strangers holding rod and reel,

“Long have I watched you, patience transfixed.”
