房兵曹胡马
胡马大宛名，
锋棱[1]瘦骨成。
竹批[2]双耳峻[3]，
风入四蹄轻。
所向无空阔，
真堪托死生[4]。
骁腾[5]有如此，
万里可横行。
此诗作于公元740或741年，杜甫本善骑射，也很爱马，写了很多咏马的诗。此诗前四句写的是马的品相，开首说马来自大宛，“大宛汗血古共知”，还未论及骨相，已然使人觉得这是一匹好马。接着写马的特征：骨骼嶙峋，耸如锋棱，耳如刀劈，尖锐挺立，都表明这是一匹良马。第四句由静转动，视角由旁观者到骑乘者，再现了神骏飞驰的场景，这很可能不是诗人的想象，而是真实的感受，所以才有下文的“真堪托死生”。有马如此，真可以横行万里，建功立业了。全诗写得豪放奔腾，饱含了诗人青年时期的壮志雄心。

The Tartar Steed of Captain Fang
A Tartar steed of famous breed
With bony frame runs at full speed.
As pointed bamboo its sharp ears,
Fast as the wind, light it appears.
Into nothing distances melt, [1]
No danger on its back is felt.
If their four hoofs can run their fill,
You can ride wherever you will.[2]

The poem “The Tartar Steed of Captain Fang” is a poem by Du Fu, a poet of the Tang Dynasty. The poem depicts a “Hu horse” with clear bones and galloping for miles, through which the poet expects Fang Bingcao to build a successful career for his country, expressing the poet’s ambitious ideal of galloping in the wind and clouds, as well as showing the poet’s resolute and courageous character. The style of the poem is superb and vigorous, bold and optimistic, and the combination of description and lyricism is natural and seamless.
