隋宫
（隋堤）
乘兴南游不戒严，
九重[1]谁省[2]谏书函[3]。
春风举国裁宫锦[4]，
半作障泥[5]半作帆。
隋炀帝的腐败与昏暴，在历代皇帝中尤为突显。此诗一二句谓其轻狂和残暴，三四句谓其多次南游，耗尽民脂民膏。
将此诗与七律《隋宫》诗对读，会感到律诗与绝句诗的不同。律诗篇长，适于铺展，而绝句句数少，不得不节省笔墨，充分发挥含蓄的功效。
注释：
[1]九重：指皇帝居住的深宫。
[2]省：明察，懂得。
[3]谏书函：给皇帝的谏书。
[4]宫锦：供皇家使用的高级锦缎。
[5]障泥：马鞯，垫在马鞍的下面，两边下垂至马蹬，用来挡泥土。

The pleasure-seeking monarch toured the South at will.
Who dare alert him in the ninth celestial sphere?
People were forced to weave brocade through the mill
But half was used as mudguard and half as sail too dear.
Note:This is another satire against the last emperor of the Sui Dynasty（隋炀帝）who forced people to weave brocade for his carriages and ships and punished with death those who dared to alert him.
