Carps Jumped out of the Estavel

Jiang Shi of the Han Dynasty, waited upon his mother with extreme filial piety. Lady Pang, his wife, was also very cautious about attending her mother-in-law. His mother liked drinking from the Yangtze River, so his wife often went six to seven li (1 li= 500 meters) to fetch river water for her. Their mother liked carps better, and she would not eat the carp alone. The young couple often did carps for their mother, and asked their neighbour’s mother to share them as well. One day, they suddenly found, at the side of their house, a sprouting spring, the taste of which was just like that of the river. To their surprise, every day two carps would jump out of the spring, which Jiang Shi caught and cooked for their mother.
